I had to go on FMLA recently because I started having issues at work. I started having moments where I would blank out and when I would come out of it I wouldn't know where I was at or what I was doing... This is especially dangerous as I drive 18 wheelers. As soon as it started happening I took myself off the road. My psychologist and neurologist are trying to figure out what's going on, meanwhile I don't have a income and my wife is on disability. It's especially worrisome because I can't go back to work unless both doctors sign off on it. I don't think that's going to happen. Anyone have any ideas about diagnoses? Should I file for disability? I'm 52 so I don't think they will consider retraining.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Well age should not be an issue with retraining. What kind of retraining. Don't say anything about a disability GO TOO eeoc.com Look for ADA American Disability's Act. Ask them for a different job by saying can u make accommodations for me that will not cost the company money to keep working that's it if they don't you will be eligible for unemployment.
Thanks for this!

I'm sorry - that sounds kind of terrifying. I'm glad you were able to take yourself off the road, it's important to keep yourself (and everyone else) safe...

I don't think 52 is too old to retrain at all. Does your work provide any kind of short term disability, since you're in treatment for the issues that are making you unable to work? Have you talked to your doctors/therapist about how the prognosis looks (i.e. are they optimistic that they can get this straightened out?)

I hope your doctors are able to help you get a handle on what's going on soon... and I wish that I had better advice for you!
Thanks for this!

Well I got my diagnosis today. Dissociative depersonalization derealization disorder . At least I have a handle on it... The bad news is I'm not going back to work anytime soon. No one is going to be responsible for signing off on me with this going on. Th

No. You can apply immediately when you get your doctor's diagnosis.

I would suggest you contact a lawyer who specializes in disability cases. I tried filing on my own last year and it did not go well. I have a CDL too, though I do not work I wonder if mental health records will tie into the DAQ or MVR at some point.
