I have an interview on Wednesday for a second part time job I can fit in around my current job, but I worried about whether it would be too much for me.
If I accept my day will look like this: Early morning start for Job A - 2 hour gap until Job B- work at Job B- 1 1/2 half gap- work at Job A I'll be out of the house from 7 am to 6pm, which for me is a long time. I'll have to catch 4 - 6 buses everyday, depending on weather. I know a lot of people work this hard, but I can't help but feel nervous. It's the long day, the empty gaps, and the back and forth travelling which are making me feel nervous. I've worked early morning shifts before, and it left me feeling depressed. On the plus side it'll be good experience. I don't like the thought of turning down work. Has anyone done this? Thank you! |

Is the second job going to be a long term venture or is it just for the holiday season? Is it something you would enjoy doing or something that has perks such as good pay or learning a new skill or something that would help you reach your long term goals, whatever those may be?
How many days per week would you be working both jobs? I used to work 12 hour shifts at a single job and I'd pick up overtime sometimes but every fourth week I worked the weekend and had the rest of the week off so I was able to recharge by looking forward to the long stretch off once a month. I despise morning shifts too. I prefer night shifts. __________________ The purpose of life is not to be happy. Hi,
Thanks for replying so quickly. I think it's a permanent job. The pros are that I'll gain more experience (rather than learning new skills), earn more money and I'll have every weekend off to recharge. I know I should take it if I'm offered it. I just feel anxious about it all. Thanks. |

You can always give it up if it doesn't work out for you, too. I tried a second job once but quit after a few days because it was too much for me.
Would it be possible to find a single job C that had better hours, where you could just work from 9-5 or whatever without any gaps or bus rides during the day? |

Can you clarify, are you working a split shift at Job A?

Your original question was: Have you ever turned down a job?
My answer: Yes I went for a job interview for inside sales. During the course of the interview the hiring manager began to elaborate on the "fun" games they play to motivate the sales team. She said the sales agent with the lowest sales for each hour has to wear a dunce cap for the hour . Whoever has the lowest sales in the next hour wears the dunce cap ... And so on, and so on. This motivates the sales agents to sale more each hour to get rid of the dunce cap. After hearing that I knew right away that manager was bonkers and I was not taking that job. |
