I worry about getting fired almost daily. My therapist says I have PTSD from a horrible childhood in foster care and from being fired a year ago. The experience of being fired last year has haunted me ever since, I think mainly because it was so unexpected and they would not give me a reason why, but they treated me like I did something horrible. I never got in trouble at work and was praised for my hard work and skills. I feel like if I knew what had went wrong from that experience, I wouldn't be so troubled today.

It's a fear I have too. Although my work situation is different to yours, I'm always feeling like I'm behind, about to screw up or both. Look at the positive, you've got another job despite being fired last year. That's a true sign of strength on your part.

Sure, I did, and I let my manager indirectly know that and she reassured me. Working with ptsd is a pita and I hope it lessens with time in the workplace!

Hi there. I just want to share a brief story with you. At my last job i feared every single day that i was getting fired without any sound reasoning for feeling that way. I would even ask my office manager every day if I was getting fired. She got so sick and tired of me asking that, that i did in fact get fired because i believe I talked myself right into getting fired. So my fear came true but I feel I pushed it too far and ended up being self destructive on my own part. Try and focus on something else when that thought enters your head.
Thanks for this!

I worry about it every day. Even when I'm doing a good job. I have severe performance anxiety related to my PTSD.

I absolutely know what you are going through.

It's only natural to be afraid of being fired from your job, especially if you don't have money saved up and/or you have a MI that makes it difficult for you to get another one.

You never know what the future might hold, therefore, I think it wise to always have some kind of contingency plan in place such as an extra source of income doing something independent from your job (such as selling on eBay or driving for Uber), have money saved up to cover your basic living expenses for several months or more, or have somewhere else you can live such as with a family member just in case you're fired.

Call me cynical, but I simply cannot and will not trust somebody with any kind of direct power over me, especially an employer who is only interested in profit.

I also worry way too much about getting fired. What I have found that helps is to just focus on the one thing I am doing at the time, and do it well. If I keep doing that I slowly build up some confidence because I know I am doing the work to my best ability. The problem is I have to keep up this excersize or else I fall right back into the daily agony of thinking I'm going to get fired.

My fear of being fired or laid off comes and goes. It isn't constant but it is there. It's easier when I am super busy at work to not think about it. I don't really have any advice to help but at least know you're not alone

Yes, daily. Although, I'm not really certain where the line is between it being an unhealthy fear or a reinforced one. I've been told before that "if you don't want to do it, I can go out on the street and find many who would for less."

Companies are no longer families, they no longer care about employees as individuals, they're merely numbers and numbers they're trying to scrunch as small as possible to boost their own profit. It's demoralizing and terrifying knowing you're expendable in their eyes.

Best of luck to you with the new job.

I don't worry about it so much with my current job (small family owned business), but my last job was with a large company and I worried about it every day.

Companies are interested in money. The Ceo don't care about its employees. They will sell our souls to highest bidder

I've been fired a couple of times and now I don't worry about it. I know that I'm slower than normal people.
