Hello Everyone,
So I am going to start back working after being off of it for sometime. I recently learned that you cannot take short term or long term disability for pre-existing conditions. Previously, I believed I would be alright because I figured that I would pay the extra money monthly to secure the ST or LT disability for me just in case I have a psychotic break and need to adjust my meds but since I cannot do this does anyone know of anything similar that I can pay for that will pay me on the chance that I am out of work dealing with my mental health. I know the government has SSDI but I don't think I will be that severe again. I just need something to hold me over a few months just in case. Does this even exist? |

Most commercial policies totally exclude mental health conditions....I looked after my first psychosis.....let me know if you find an alternative

Oh geez, I need to check my policy now. I didn't even think to ask when I signed up for it. I assumed I was covered because my last policy covered me.

Hi there! There is always up to 12 weeks of FMLA you can take as a full time employee. I am currently applying for it myself for intermittent leave - as in, when I'm adjusting to a med and I can't stay awake, I'll leave for 3 hours (or the day) and take a nap. It's as needed, and unpaid unless you have spare PTO or vacation/sick time. Just wanted to throw that out.
