I spoke to a recruiter yesterday a position that pays 22/hour but more phone work and it's customer service related. I'd rather do IT on the end user side. Recruiter submitted my resume over will take a week for the hiring team to get a hold of me or not.

Right now I'm still building up my leadership role plus I applied to an internal 60 day position at my job so I can be off the phones for a bit. Not one recruiter is taking into consideration about my team lead role never asks me about managing people they assume I want a level one tech job

I'm trying to stay away from tech support it's not what I thought it would be. This position is more phone work yuck more customer service base I'd rather do end user. We'll see if the hiring team responds in a week or so. I don't get many offers in the 20 dollar range but they do pop up here and there 4 me

OMG!!!! I WANT TO SCREAM RIGHT NOW.

One employer just gave me FOUR documents with challenge tests for me to complete BEFORE my interview on Thursday. Like hell I'm going to be able to do this AND prep for my interview by then. They''re rushing it because someone is leaving. So does their emergency suddenly become MY emergency before I'm even hired? Like hell.

I am beyond annoyed with interviewing in my field at this point. They ALL want to give me challenge tests and questions. WHY can't the interview process and my great references suffice to be freaking hired already????????

RANT VENT RANT VENT. I'm a bit pissed off.

I know what you mean. I have half a mind to totally skip on this interview entirely, but I cannot afford it.

I remember when the interview process WAS enough, and there was no such thing as a "phone interview". No personality tests either, where they ask you stuff like "Do you think the majority of people cheat on their taxes?"

And what's the "right" answer? Being honest can hurt you, but so can lying since supposedly they know if you're lying on some questions. They allegedly figure "most" people would lie on a question like "Have you ever had an argument with a co-worker?" So if you say no, and it's true, they will think you're lying. Something like that. So "lie" so you look "honest".

And if you don't pass these tests, you get "weeded" out right then and there. They are sometimes "timed", adding to the pressure.

Wow nothing like the way my computer engineering interviews were like. It was mostly technical & abut the work you had done. I always enjoyed interviewing & almost every interview I got an offer from. Cant imagine what its like now

I know, right?!??!? What the heck is going on nowadays? I feel like employers are being much more stringent, picky and discerning through their screening process.

It. makes it almost impossible to get a job!!!!

I haven't had a job offer in over a year now. Rejection upon rejection. And they all do these challenge questions and tests.

My therapist says it's because I am at a more senior level in my career.

Have you thought of perhaps lowering your standards a bit? If I remember correctly, you are well-educated so minimum wage jobs would probably reject you outright...but what about junior level jobs in your career? Is there anything else you could do besides the one specific area you've been applying for?

I have applied for lower level jobs in my field and still get rejected because my salary is too high and I am too senior. I cannot afford to lose salary and I have been told I am too senior for the lower level jobs. I cannot switch careers either at this juncture and don't want to. I am too entrenched in my field with 9-10 years of experience in total. So I am stuck, unfortunately, and just have to keep trying to find a senior level role that will accept me. ARGH. TY though for your thoughts and support!

I understand that senior level position problem. After 15 years in aerospace computer engineering, aerospace in Calif crashed around 1994. Finding another position was impossible & the commercial sector had no interest hiring a high paid aerospace engineer. It wasva horrible place to be in especially with everything else that was bad in my life (marriage) put me in a financially trapped position.

Never did find a position & had a breakdown instead.....it wasnt a good time in my life. Dont remember much during those 13 black hole years.

I'm shocked! Got sent a level one position a state job and contract for 24/hour!! Not sure if it has benefits but I'll find out. I'll apply to it then go from there. Why are there so many level one tech jobs out there? It's almost 4 years doing level one and I'm already bored and drain. 24/hour not bad.

I can't afford to go lower in pay

Omg it sure does! Past interviews I've been to were rude and unprofessional. Dumb questions asking me questions that didn't pertain to my current role or my previous role.

They give u so much **** to do b4 they call u in for an interview. Took me two years to get a full time so ridiculous

My son had an 8 hour interview at 20 years old to be an engineer as soon as he graduates with his undergrad degree next semester, and then they told him they’d call him. Haven’t heard anything in weeks.

Ok. I need an opinion on this. So, on Tuesday this week I was hit with a multitude of tests by this employer. They wanted them completed before my interview on Thursday to "expedite" me through their process. I said I would try to get them done before Thursday, but that I had other interviews Tue & Wed and that I might have to turn them in after Thursday. Then, a winter storm is in effect, so we had to reschedule Thursday's interview until next week. She then they asked me Wed morning if I had time on Wed afternoon to speak to the hiring manager on the phone (the one I would meet with next week anyways). I said, unfortunately no, because I had an interview which required travel time on Wed. afternoon.

So, last night, someone tells me that I am acting as though I don't want the job. From my shoes, I am busy, I have other things going on, I will complete the tests as soon as possible, & sorry, but I didn't have time to talk to the manager on Wednesday, especially when you give me last minute notice!

When and how does their emergency become my emergency before I'm hired anyways? Someone left the role I am interviewing for, and I suspect they're trying to push the process to get someone in there ASAP.

I was busy and could not accommodate their needs. What do you think? Does this show I lack interest?

Who the heck told you that? You aren't acting like you don't want the position. You have other things scheduled and you need time to prep for an interview. You are being responsible setting boundaries. No, their emergency does not equal your emergency. They can ask for you to rearrange things, but they also need to be cognizant of your schedule. I have had interviewers want to change times and days of interviews and I am just honest with them about when I am available. If they hold it against you that you have other commitments scheduled and need to.find a mutually agreed upon time, then there is something wrong with them and their expectations. Was this comment coming from the potential employer?

I have 8 hour interviews all the time. It's typically after I've already had two interviews with the organizations. It's usually an on site interview and they have me meet with mutiple departments and staff. Again, it's typically for senior level jobs.
