So i recently went from a 10-12 hour per week job to a 50+ hour per week job pretty much overnight. Got laid off from the former and decided it was time to earn some real money and push myself to my limit.
I am so glad I did. Prior to this new job, I had tons of idle time. It amazes me how much idle time contributed negatively to my mental health. This new job is a warehouse position with a logistics company. I have been KILLING it. Typically new guys get stuck peeling tape off of styrofoam, sorting it, and recycling it (which I really don't mind doing, I'll go where they need me). The more senior guys get to do the cool stuff around the warehouse. I got pulled off styrofoam my first couple days because they needed me doing the hard work with the senior employees. I gave it everything I had, 100% of my effort. I listened intently and focused on learning the various techniques and practices. I worked myself like a dog and picked up on it very quickly. It paid off. I did so well that my boss praised my work and told me I'm off styrofoam and now I work with the senior employees. I got fast tracked after 2 days. My days of half a**ing jobs are over. This has done wonders for my mental health. I have a sense of satisfaction, reward, and fulfillment. I am proud of my accomplishments. I get to go home every day knowing that I gave my all. My dissatisfaction with life is melting away. My depression is lifting. I feel useful. Plus I am saving money for Christmas. Through my own hard work I can buy everyone in my family Christmas presents, something that I was never able to do. I can also chip away at my debt. I'll be starting a formal apprenticeship with a local union this summer, 16/hr starting out, and from the very first second of the very first work day I will bust my butt and earn every penny. I will not slow my pace or sit back and relax while on the clock. I'll be moving, asking questions, learning, working. Take pride in your work. You'll feel a million times better ![]()

This is awesome! It never occurred to me that working hard could actually help with stress. I'm just not sure if I have the energy and motivation to start really pushing myself. But good for you!
