I was thinking of increasing my income. I'm a full time perm team lead managing 30 agents and making $16/hour been with the company for almost 16 months been a lead for 2 months.

Besides me needing to finish my b's and going back to school. What I make is not enough I'm single no kids no pets yet.

Has anyone been a distributor selling products? Coworker is selling a lipstick I always buy. Of course I'm gonna resume my job search next year after the holidays. It's something I'm thinking again it's tiring working for this company I don't want to be a distributor full time just part time.

If so what have been everyone's experienced being a distributor?

So if you mean like a distributor like for Lularoe or Avon or Mary Kay, what I understand is that it can be very difficult. Those distributorships are often pyramid schemes or scams that require the distributor to purchase thousands of dollars of product up front to sell.

The other thing is that typically these kind of distributor programs require you to tap into your network of friends and family to sell. Think about what it is you are going to sell? The items don't just sell themselves. You have to market, market, market to your network and typically that means friends and family. Are your friends and family going to buy the product?

My mom got into selling Mary Kay and got stuck with hundreds of dollars of make up that she can't sell because her network is small and none of them really want the make up.

These companies tell you that the items will sell themselves, but from what reviews and articles I have read, the people who do well only do well because they work their asses off marketing, throwing parties, and soliciting to sell the products.

A lot of people think they will go into it part-time to earn a little extra cash and then make the initial investment to become a distributor and find that it's a LOT of work to sell the products.

I have heard a lot of nightmares about Lularoe and Herbalife, in particular.

So, buyer beware.

I think it can be rather difficult. I buy off a couple of people on a couple of things that I regularly buy anyways and often read over the "rewards" systems in their quarterly catalogs. The ones that I have in mind require initial investments. Then expect recruiting while building up a base. I'd research before taking such a leap. I just observed 2 friends fold on a couple of ventures. In the same breathe, I've also watched a couple of people grow. If you do, those growing are prompt with samples, rewards/contests and sent holiday cards. Best of luck in your decision.

A couple of friends have tried and eventually given up after spending money on products they couldn't sell. One friend keeps going from one distributor to another and it's depressing to watch her waste her time and money. I know two women who are very successful. Both of them were one of the first in our area to get into distributing that product. One of them also comes from a huge family and gets a lot of her leads through them, their coworkers, etc.

I could see you doing something entrepreneurial... is there some kind of service you could sell?

This company is called senegence that's where I buy my lipstick called lipscence. At my job it's like I gotta work 19 times harder for overtime to afford xyz without it my regular checks suck.

That's why I've been thinking about a distributor and I'll keep researching. I'm stuck at this job until I can find something more suitable.
