This is actually kind of funny. At work I said hi to someone who was not in my department but who has been friendly before. I said “hi.” And she asked how I was doing. And I said “good.” Then she said “good? Is that what that grunt was?” In my head I was like “eff you.”
I have a speech problem that causes a slight lisp. But I also can’t project my voice very loud either. She was just being rude. This isn’t the first time someone at work commented about my speech/voice. I’m not really bothered by it, I’m more concerned about other things happening. Does anyone have any comments/ suggestions? |

Was she being snarky or sincere?

I get really bad social anxiety and this on rare occasions causes me to stutter when I try to cough up some words while I feel very nervous. One time after a year at working this job I finally started getting a little friendlier with one of the shift supervisors so one day when my shift was over I tried t say "bye, -her name-" and it came out a stuttery mess for some reason. She made a weird face and then laughed and that was it. I left and felt bad about it but. Just pushed it out of my mind. I have no advice really but I have had similar situations occur and i know it doesnt feel too great right after.

It sounded pretty snarky.
I’m thinking maybe she was just having a bad day. |

Next time you could ask her what she means. |

Next time flat out tell her you have a speech impediment. I bet she'll turn red and feel bad for saying something. When people say something rude in regards to my disability, without realizing it's because of my disability, and then I point that out to them, they always get really apologetic. And they never do it again.

Like that member said, you point out your problem to them.
It's not surprising to know that there will be always few rude people in workplaces.
