I swear being unemployed and looking for work is more work than having a job. Struggling to figure out how to stretch my budget as far as possible.
I'm literally out of money. Fortunately, I was able to put some gas in my car and buy stamps, which I need to send out thank you notes for all the job interviews I've been on. I feel really good about the fact that I will have a new job in a few weeks, but it's been 13 weeks of unemployment already, and so I've used up all my unemployment benefits. (Well I get my final week of payment next week, but it's only $275 and it's already promised to a couple of different bills that I have to pay.) I've had to work so hard to communicate with all my billing agencies about getting extensions and when I can pay. I have to go to the Humane Society to take advantage of their dog food pantry to get free dog food. I'm trying to get United Way to pay my electric bill for this month. On top of that I have to have money to put gas in my car so I can make it to job interviews all over town. Plus keeping searching for new potential opportunities...being unemployed and trying to make ends meet feels like a full-time job in and of itself. It's just so stressful and creating a lot of additional anxiety that I don't need right now, especially since I have generalized anxiety disorder already anyhow. Just had to vent. Seesaw

It's been around 10 years now since the recession happened and people are still struggling. Bankers get away with taking us all down this route and the rest of us are left with the bill.
I hope everything turns for the better for you very soon. |

I hope you're working at a new job right now. It's tough when you have all these bills, but no way to pay them.
The positive is that we have to remind ourselves that in times of need, there are many non-profit organization that can help us. It does take work to receive the help, but it can ease the burden on you. Best of luck. ![]() |

I have been using community resources. I went to a food pantry last week and they gave me a list of other food pantries I could visit. I applied for food stamps and actually qualified. It's a small amount but better than nothing. And I got dog food donated by the local animal shelter using their food donation program. My mom also gave me a small loan to help me get on top of things. Just enough to get ahead so I'm not always behind. I'm making everything stretch so far. Hopefully this won't last too much longer. But also, I have a steady freelance gig that will start paying probably at the end of November, so that will be helpful to balance out my income. I'm only allowed to make a certain amount on ssdi, but that amount really makes a difference. Seesaw

I was wondering if things have changed since you posted this message. I am hoping that they did...I am actually praying that they did. I am heading in the same direction, my position will end soon and I will have to find work. I was advised some few years ago to apply for SSDI, but when I did, I was denied before even submitting the application. I have lots of health and mental health issues and have been told by therapist, some doctors that I qualify but because I was denied, I've been to afraid to re-apply. I'm scared to death. I am in my fifties and lack of education and being in the same position for 20 plus years (no formal training in my current position) has taken me out of the job market. All of the jobs that I have looked into that are very simular to what I've done for the last 20+ years require an education or training and because my mental health badly interferes with everyday life, I'm afraid, I won't find anything that will accommodate my issues...it's really depressing the mess out of me. Thank you for sharing with me. Again, I hope and pray that you have found a really good job since your last post to this thread.
