I worked at a high end retail store for a year and a few months. I quit in October.

I just found out yesterday they are closing that location along with a bunch of other locations because they are “reconstructing the chain.”

I had read for a number of months the rumors about stores closing. I never really believed them. I also thought my location would be one of the last to close. It’s across the street from a huge shopping mall, and it just seemed nicer then some of the others I’ve been to that are not closing.

I have mixed feelings about it. I’m glad I got out in time, I feel bad for some of the employees who have been there for 20 years, and I feel sort of guilty that maybe I was too hard on my boss. I thought she just hated me. But maybe she was dealing with other stuff.

I’m also kinda concerned because in the last month, a sports store I got a job offer at, and a Toys R Us I applied to and desperately wanted the job, have all closed. I don’t think my current job will close, but then again I had no idea my last job would close. And I wasn’t thinking those other two places would close. I live in a town that is known for its huge mall and other surrounding shopping areas. It’s difficult when the supposed best locations are closing.

Should I worry/feel bad about it? Or just let it go?

Will worrying about it or feeling bad about it change anything?

Wow, I would find that disconcerting also. It's best to let it go, but it's disturbing. Are people not shopping in that area as much anymore? Is there new competition or something?

The mall has a lot of high end stores too. So maybe there were just too many in the area. When I worked There it was always really empty.

I don’t know. Everyone I’ve talked to is really surprised that specific location is closing.

I might go in tomorrow and look around. I doubt it’s a good idea. But my boss didn’t used to work on the weekends.

Is that a bad idea?

I went in there today to check out the sales.

Needless to say, they were not happy to see me.

That sounds awkward! I could see some resentment since you escaped and they are still there... were the sales worth it?

The sales sucked. There was still a ton of stuff left, and the place wasn’t much more crowded then it was when I worked there.

Everyone I mentioned it to said they are probably jealous of me because I have job security and they don’t.

I don’t know about that, but maybe.

Sounds like someone is watching out for you. How cool that you left and got a job before the curtains closed on the place you were working, yes when a business closes it's sad for people especially if the store was well liked. But morn as you need to, don't dwell. You're in a better place and that's good. Be grateful.
