I went into work today and when I got home I looked at the answering machine and there was a message from work from yesterday telling me not to come into work today. The guy who made the call wasn’t there today. My department manager was confused since he thought people were being told not to come in. Some were in. Some were not. No one told me I wasn’t supposed to be there today though. I had work to do the entire 5.5 hours I was there. So I assume it was a budget issue. I totally freaked when I got the message. I immediately called work and I got a diffrent manager that had been there when I worked this morning. I explained that I missed a message telling me not to come in and I had come in anyways. She didn’t sound very happy. But maybe I was imagining it. She said she will talk to the store manager when he gets back from lunch.

Will I get into trouble? It was an honest mistake. I work 2 other times this week. Will they maybe tell me not to come in another day? I’m freaking out thinking I’ll get into trouble.

I would think it would have been up to the management, once you got in, to send you home if they really meant that phone call.

I went in today and the manager who was there was the one who I talked to on the phone yesterday. I apologized again and she said it’s fine and not to worry. I explained there was plenty of things for me to do and she said that was good. When I see the other manager I plan on giving him my cell number. Work has my landline and my cell is the best number to reach me. I’ve just had issues with other jobs taking advantage of knowing my cell phone number. Like calling me at 10 in the morning on my day off and demanding I drop everything and come in. This job seems different

Well, that's a scary message indeed, but I wouldn't really worry if I were you.

The manager who called me was there yesterday. He did seem to have a bit of an attitude when I was talking about a different contact number. I tend to imagine or misinterpret people’s tones. I’m sure he was fine.

But yeah I was pretty scared.
