I’m in an occupation where it’s all about customer connection and I don’t have the emotional energy to meet the increasing demands placed on us. Smile , greet, ask a question, give a compliment.

 I understand how you may be feeling right now. It's not easy to keep smiling and have a cheerful attitude when you're struggling inside. How is the rest of your job? Do you like it? If not, perhaps you may want to look for another job. I'm sos orry you have to deal with this
