I do know that for me what goes on at work can carry into how I feel outside of work. I'm not keen on giving work that much power over my feelings and emotions so I try to sort out what's eating at me so that I can feel empowered as opposed to miserable. Not to say it's roses and unicorns. So no I do not feel that you are alone in how work can affect emotional health.

My parents put so much pressure on me to succeed in everything, that as an adult my work and self-esteem are one in the same.
Even the smallest thing makes me sick with anxiety and depression. |

I never feel happy because I often compare myself to other people. Everyone else seem to be smarter than me. Sigh

![]() When I feel or worry I am not doing great at work my self-esteem suffers. And when I feel the opposite, I feel on top of the world. My self-esteem has very much been attached to my work. I try to tell myself: I am doing my very best, and that is all I can ask of myself. In my head, I know that self-esteem comes from inside and that we should not attach it to anything outside ourselves. But I am guilty of attaching it to my work a lot of the time. The only solution I have found is to deliberately try to feel good about myself when I know I have done the best job I possibly can.
