Well we are off on Thursday. She has this file cabinet behind the front desk she likes locked. Well I was doing a project along with duties and had to get something for the project out of the file cabinet. Well I left the key in it and didn't lock it obviously.

She saw it today she goes in to do paperwork. She texted saying I left it open for two days. So now I'm worried. It has junk in it. Like events, and schedules from prior years. And labels. Nothing a thief would want but she likes it locked. Not the first time I forgot either.

I locked the file room. The computer gets locked away, rooms cleaned, calls forwarded, a million other things get done in 15 minutes before we lock the door. But that I forget. I actually try not to use that file drawer because it's a pain in my ***. But she had me use it for the project. And now I'm worried about my job.

Do you do well otherwise? Would she fire you over this?

Just apologize for it and DON'T DO IT AGAIN! I got fired for a similar reason before. I left the safe at a center for mental illness open for the entire weekend!

One way to prevent this in the future is by creating a checklist of everything you have to do at the end of the day before you lock up. That way you'll make sure not to forget anything.
