I just finished a temporary job and am job-hunting again. because i was depressed for many years, i worked a lot of temp jobs for a long time. i feel so lost and directionless. i wish i could come up with a home business but that is easier said than done..sigh..

What kind of home business would you start? That is where I get stuck. I desperately want out of my industry but anything I think of switching to seems like it wouldn't make enough money. Sometimes I wonder if it is depression talking to suppress good ideas.

Have you thought about using freelancing platforms like Freelancer, UpWork, etc. to do virtual assistant/data entry work? (I'm not sure if that's the kind of temp work you did or not.) Just a suggestion. It can take a little while to get some clients, but once you get a few under your belt, it can be pretty steady income and flexible.

Yeh I was going to suggest Task Rabbit. You can get paid to run errands or assemble furniture.
