I got a letter from social security this weekend and they want my job to fill out some paperwork. I’m really anxious about doing it. They of course don’t know I’m getting SSI or even much about my disability. I was going to give it to the nicest supervisor tomorrow. Can I get fired if they think I’m a liability or something? The paperwork says it’s nothing against them as an employer. I literally have no choice in this. They have to fill this out. But I am so nervous about this I feel like I’m going to throw up.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to say, how to handle it, or what may come out of it?

I don't think they will fire you. Do you have a human resources department? I mainly work in accounting but since I work for a small company, I also do HR. I have to fill out paperwork like what you are describing sometimes for the employees. I don't think any less of the employee or think of them as a liability. I just fill out the questions on the form and that's that. I hope it goes smoothly for you! HUGS Kit

No we don’t have an HR department. I’m just hoping the really nice and understanding manager is there tomorrow. The paperwork itself is scaring me as well. I don’t know what kind of info social security wants and why. I’ve been sending in my pay stubs every month and doing exactly what they have been telling me to do. It’s kind of scary they want to talk to my workplace.

I applaud you working while on disability. I think rather than looking down at you, they’ll admire you for working . Ton of people don’t work and aren’t even on disability and complain about being broke, yet do nothing about it. But you make a consistent effort and that’s absolutely admirable. Don’t let it bother you. Just ask them to fill it out i

I gave it to the manager who does the schedule and other stuff like that. I gave it to him as soon as I got in. I just asked him if he could fill it out. He looked it over and said “yeah, I’ll fill it out and give it back to you at the end of the day.” He gave it back at the end of the day and that was it. There didn’t seem to be any judgement or anything. He filled it out just fine. I’m glad it went ok.
