I had barely submitted my resume and cover letter, like I mean less than an hour, and suddenly my phone was ringing with the number of one of the places I had just submitted my information to! I freaked and just stared at it ringing hoping they would leave a voicemail but they didn't. Should I call back should i wait until tomorrow I just sent my resume to several places in the last day or two and I was hoping to hear from at least two or three before I made a decision. Can a potential employer look too desperate? Should I see that as a red flag? It really spiked my anxiety to have someone call not even an hour later. Have I already screwed this up?

Employers call quickly now - people looking for work have lots of choices and usually the quicker an interview occurs and an offer is made, the better. They want to get a new employee hired and not lose that person to someone who is faster. And in turn, you should answer your phone if you're putting in applications. Some people won't leave a message, they'll just move to the next applicant.

Ugh I know, I just freaked out when the phone was ringing so fast. In my defense I just wanted to give a couple other jobs that I applied to and feel more excited about a chance to respond. Plus I am dealing with a lot fear of failure right now, I don’t want to boomerang back here in year or two and I guess my brain is saying “Hey, can’t boomerang back if you never leave.” I will call them tomorrow.

Of course employers could be desperate because they need to hire staff. Not sure how they can be “too” desperate or why is it a red flag. It’s not a social call or a date. Now if you prefer those other jobs it doesn’t mean you must get this one. But do call them back

It really depends on the industry and position. I'm looking for a driver position and submitted an online app to a company, turned off my computer screen, got up, stretched and my phone rang, it was the company I just applied to. Some places, as has been mentioned before, realise they have to act quickly if they want to fill positions.

Take it as a compliment, you have a highly desirable skill set that isn't common, if that makes them desperate, then every trucking company in the USA is desperate. Ok, bad example, they are.

But seriously, it's a compliment to you. They want YOU, and they want you NOW! before anyone else grabs you. This puts you in a pretty powerful position, don't forget that. Don't let it go to your head either though.
