I've been at my job 11 years. Now a backstabber just got promoted to be my supervisor and she told me I couldn't take 10 minutes to eat before my official break that I use to go home and decompress. I read in the policy manual that the executive director makes break rules like that and took 10 minutes to eat. She sent a nasty e-mail saying if I continued I may be punished. I decided to ask for 2 weeks off. She granted it. Then from home I logged into the site were we report our time sheet and saw that I was put down for 2 days of unpaid time off. I read the rules and saw that they are supposed to give me a written notice of suspension and give me time to respond. I don't know what's going on. It looks like my boss is looking to find any excuse to fire me.

Maybe you dont have a full 2 weeks of vacation accumulated, so the 2 days unpaid reflects that?

No. I have 2 months of vacation time accumulated. I have had it for months and have not been getting more added on because I reached the max.

That’s crazy. I’m curious what kind of job is so rigid about breaks. You’re entitled to 2 paid 10 min breaks and an unpaid lunch in most jobs.

It used to be an easygoing job analyzing drinking water as a chemist and no one had strict rules on breaks. You just got your work done and all was well. It is an hourly paid job, but we get told not to work overtime at all, just to make up the work later. When I was at another job in this organization 20 years ago my first supervisor spelled it out for me - if you have to stay late just come in later the next day. That has happened at this job and I did it that way. I walked by the boss's office late on my way in plenty of times and he never said anything to me. He left 2 years ago and the new boss never said anything to me. I met with him and he was saying it was his job to help me get my job done. He left last year and now I have a new supervisor who is really nasty and argues with me all the time. She told me to upload documents from the old system into the new one and that I would get instructions on what to do. I never got the instructions and she berated me for not doing it anyway.

Yes. In theory we do but in practice it has been a salaried position because they don't give you overtime.

That's not fair. Can you go over your boss's head to complain --or even sue to get your rights?

I agree this isn’t fair and I would say so in my response. I really hope you can get this sorted out.

I mailed my boss and she said I wasn't authorized for two days I took off. I just saw her e-mail that I was allowed to take vacation not that it ddin't start until Wednesday. So I didn't show for work Monday or Tuesday and no one bothered to call me. They're just trying to get rid of me and looking for excused to discipline me.
