It's easier for me because I'm a remote worker, I don't know if I could do it if I was there in person, but I am able to participate in the conversation without feeling like I'm being ripped apart, so I'm going to use this tactic until I can get into another department. I definitely don't want to make a habit of dealing with people that way, but this particular person is a very logical and rigid thinker and really doesn't "get me" at all and has said so. I think it's a survival technique.
Yeah, I think that's dangerous because then you're not facing your real emotions around the situation or dealing with them. I am too honest with my emotions to be able to pull off something like that. And yes, I would say it's a defense mechanism.
