I don't expect to work for a company by going to a coding bootcamp like others.
But, I want to earn money as a freelancer developing websites. I have a medical background and thought I can combine this with programming. Does anybody have any opinion about coding bootcamp? If you have gone through one, was it worth it for you? I am currently teaching and doing well. But, I want to do more with my life. Right now, I am working six days a week in the mornings and evenings. So, I can do something during the days I thought. I am too old to work for a company so know that is out of the question. I am happy with my life and job but want to do more as I said with my life. Do you think coding bootcamp is overkill for someone who just wants to freelance? I thought about learning code on my own but really don't know where to start. So, there is an outfit here where they teach the basics and get you ready for their Bootcamp. Does anybody have any thoughts about this? And, should I attend the classes in person or online? I thought in class would be better but I think my sanity would be better if I took it online. Any thoughts?

I've been talking to someone who has been coding since the 7th grade and is out of a job now. Hmm, he seems burnt out. Thus, I am going to do coding only if it is fun and interesting for me. Initially, I think it will be hard but I'm not going to take it too seriously. Moreover, I'm too old to work for companies so will just do it as a hobby or to build websites or web apps for fun. I really don't know anything about coding now and am going to start taking classes for fun from the basics and see how I like it. Software engineers have a hard work life at companies it seems. I will continue my current job as I look at taking courses. I am excited but realize to take it as it comes.

I'm not sure how valuable the boot camps are. They are kind of like cram courses. You may learn more doing a (free) self paced online program. FreeCodeCamp is a good place to start. The Odin Project is another one that people really seem to like.

Yes, I've heard of both of these programs. Thank you for these! I will look into them. I am lazy and thought the boot camps would help me get on the right path. I enrolled in Harvard's CS50 course but have not started it yet. May be, I should take the free route.

CS50 is another good one! That one has a lot of hands on assignments but is more abstract, getting into the basic principles of how computers and programming works.

I am taking my time but enrolled in the freecode camp too. I like it!!! I find basic coding fun for now. I will try to finish the freecode camp within a year hopefully. I talked to the coding boot camp people. They are eager for people to apply and send them money. I don't really need to go to boot camp for now. I am too old to join a company and would just like to freelance if possible. I do believe coding boot camps are good to connect people to companies. And, they may help you polish your resume and prepare for job interviews. But, I don't need this and am not seeking a company job. Coding is like a hobby for me.
