I'm a puddle of mush atm, really. Well, in regards to this.
I got hired at a grocery store. They gave me more hours than I asked for, for training. They scheduled me where I'd asked not to be scheduled. I'm also scheduled for my first day on Wednesday - It's a 6 hour evening shift. Then I will be working 6 more hours the next morning. That is insane to me. I haven't worked in 8 years. I'm already overwhelmed. I did express in my interview that I haven't worked in a long time, and that I'd like to ease back into it. I know I need to have a conversation with my supervisor, with more details, but I really...I just want to quit. I've been procrastinating calling her. I do need a job. I'm not happy where I live or my life situation, and I feel a job will make my life better, in the long run. But I don't know. I already have anxiety about starting. I would not call this easing back into work. |

I'm sorry to hear about this. I don't have any advice for you or suggestions. I'm not working now and that suits me fine, though I may try to go back to work eventually. I have thought of working at a grocery store myself even though I never have worked at one before.
My sister had worked at a couple of grocery chains after she had retired from the Post Office. She was retired for a bit and then decided to go back to work because of boredom and needing money badly. Her husband had worked in the grocery chain, too, after his retirement. She had quit one chain and was out of work for a while. And then she applied to another chain and only wanted to do bagging. They accepted her and she was happy with it. And then they made her a check out clerk which she didn't want. Also there had been some scheduling conflicts. She ended up not happy and quit. But another reason she quit was because of fear of COVID. She's not working now. |

Agh that's not good imo scheduling you an evening followed by a morning. I can see why that stressed you out. In UK at least by law it has to be 12 hours between shifts at least idk about US.
Sending you a hug and I'm sorry this hasn't been a good experience for you. |

Looking at my thread title, I was not being very kind to myself. I am stronger than I think, I know my needs, and I am working on moving forward with my goals.
On a separate note, thanks for the hugs Discombobulated. Last edited by WovenGalaxy; Jul 28, 2021 at 08:21 PM.. Reason: addition |

You are a strong person, WovenGalaxy. I hope things will continue improving. It took me around 3 years to fully get used to my teaching job after my major depressive episode 12 years ago. I've been doing it for more than 8 years, and I'm enjoy my work now.

Have you thought about getting a letter for reasonable accommodations? That way at least you can get a consistent schedule. |

Hi Woven Galaxy. My advice is do the back to back shifts and look at it as a blessing, you know have consecutive days off in a row!
