I look like a guy and I’ll be dressed for the interview like a man. but all my legal documents are still in my birth name. Legally I’m still female. So I’m wondering if I have to tell them I’m trans like at the start of the interview, or just if it comes up. I worked at this company before my transition when they knew me as female. So I’m not sure what info they already have on me if any. I know I’ll probably have to give them my state ID and they may want to run a background check.

I just don’t know what to expect really from this.

I think you could tell them you use “he” pronoun. It will be enough for them to know to call you correctly. Legally you might be female but it’s not for them to worry about

Honestly I think they knew. The manager doing the interview could see that my status from my old job was re hirable. Which means he probably has access to all the old info and could tell that I was born female. Half way through the interview he mentioned being a very accepting company and being really diverse. He mentioned the lgbtq+ community. I didn’t say at all that I was transgender the whole time. As a drag queen on RuPauls drag race said “it’s no ones business if your trans”

Of course if the topic comes up by a manager I’ll tell them.

Indeed has this advice about how to prepare for job interviews when you are transgender. The biggest takeaway is that YOU have to be prepared to correct the interviewer on your personal pronouns. Otherwise, they are not legally allowed to ask you personal questions. And you are not obligated to answer personal questions. That should be your gauge walking into that job interview. If they bother you about your transgender transition, that is their way of showing you that you will not be accommodated as far as restroom usage etc. So you need to do your homework first before you go to that job interview.

He was calling me he on the phone and in person today. I don’t know. He seems to understand. Again if they ask I will tell them. But my doctor when I first saw him told me I don’t have to explain anything to a job.
