WOW - so my new boss is a total biotch. While we had lost several team members and during a period of transition, me and another colleague tried to resolve a client's analytics issues. So we thought we had found the solutions and resolved it, but it turns out we had been wrong. Neither one of us is an analytics expert, and in the absence of one on the team, we tried to figure it out ourselves.

Recently they hired a new analytics expert for the team, and long story short, they discovered that our fix was incorrect.

So what does my new boss do? She emails me and my colleague, cc'ing the VP of the company, admonishing us for trying to do it ourselves and says this can never happen again. Then she even had the balls to say, if you have any concerns or comments, then arrange a meeting with me.

So I ignored that part, wrote back cc'ing the VP and told her this happened in the absence of an analytics expert and while the team was in a state of transition. I could care less if I went against her guidance. I am going to defend myself against this, especially when the VP is cc'd on such a scathing type of email to me.

What a total BIOTCH! I organized a meeting with her for Monday to discuss as well, which she cancelled, saying we will discuss in our 1:1.

I am pissed off beyond belief over this. I mean, honestly, she's been here a week and is already writing these types of emails, admonishing the team and cc'ing the VP???

I am incredulous. I got a bad vibe from her the moment she started and the moment I met her. Without asking me what my client strategy is, she already was telling me what it should be - on day 1. And I felt she was dead wrong.

She also had sent our team a hypothetical "test" scenario via email to test our knowledge. I replied with an answer, the only one on the team who did, and she replied with "this was a trick question - I did not say whether the client has X"

So what was the freaking point of your original question then if you're going to leave out pertinent info in order to test our knowledge?!? To say it was a trick? My mother said this was mean on her part to do.

Already I cannot stand her.

I don't know how I am going to survive now that she is here - how do I survive a biotch of a boss?

CYA at all times? Head down, yes her to death and cover myself always? This is going to SUCK.

Minimal engagement. I ended up transferring to a different department but I’m thinking that’s not possible much of the time for others.

Now SHE is going to be the reason I leave.

Sounds so stressful. Years ago we had a boss who was so rude and controlling, her motto was “I am not telling you when to do XYZ, I am just telling you to do it”. She has unrealistic demands and unfair practices. When she retired it was a blessing. Weirdly one of our colleagues misses her because she doesn’t like hands off bosses we’ve been having. Omg I never miss the rude and controlling one. I hope you find something different. This woman sounds horrid. Trick question??? What’s up with that

Ugh - I know! The trick question I interpret as her way of strutting her knowledge to the team and to me especially since I was the only one who answered her hypothetical question. It was a useless exercise. I learned that she chewed out my colleague on the phone the other day too. This woman will make enemies, not allies and fans. I am still seething.

And thanks so much for your reply. Your old boss sounds just as horrible!

Some people just like the power trip. Like why can they be nicer! You can be a manager but don’t need to be nasty to people

100% agree! And this woman resorts to nastiness!!!!

And I know I'm going to get chewed out for my response to her in our 1:1 meeting tomorrow. I am anticipating more trouble and more conflict with her down the road. I anticipate that I will get a call from my VP or CEO perhaps too tomorrow since I disobeyed her orders. Who the heck comes in and starts barking orders in their first week of work? YES, she's on a power trip.

I have another interview on Friday - we'll see how this process goes, this time around.

So, through today and almost every day my boss has given me a hard time. I have concluded that for some reason, she does not like me. She again chastised me via email, cc'ing the VP earlier this week. Then she came down on me today about something, being a big you know what. But then on the phone, she acts all pleasant and different, as though everything is fine. I don't understand this woman, but I cannot wait to be able to give my notice.

Ugh I hate people like this. Try to be even more pleasant on the email and try to let it blow by you until you can get out of there. I like people who straight up talk to me about what their issue is PRIVATELY without copying a million people like they're documenting for my eventual firing. The ones who switch up are a mystery to me.

It does make me wonder if she's already trying to get me fired or get rid of me.
But the fact that she's different on the phone and more pleasant makes no sense. It's probably all bs and just an act to seem nice. She seems like a total back stabber. I hate her, and it's only her second week!

I’d ask her or higher ups. What exactly is going on. If I was reprimanded or quality of my work was criticized on a faulty regular basis, I’d make an appointment to discuss what can be done so my work quality improves and I am not being constantly chastised. Id ask if she think you should get extra training etc I’d not be able to just guess what’s going and be nervous..

She might be nice in person because she has no issue with you as a person. She has an issue with your work and that’s what she addresses in emails.

I am not saying you need to improve. I am saying you got to play the game. Maybe get VP involved. Not to complain but ask those questions

Personally I think chastizing you via email and tattle tailing to the VP is a passive aggressive way of being a supervisor. Its a chicken way out too. This isnt social media where you can blast someone throughout the whole company.

It could be though that VP requires/prefers/wants to being CCed when certain things are being communicated to employees. It’s not an unusual practice.

We have couple of such directives “when communicate to so and so in regardless to XYZ task, always CC so and so”. It’s often done for documentation and/or monitoring, sometimes for collecting evidence of something. Now if she CCed the whole company that would be inappropriate. We have someone who does “reply all” all the time. That’s not acceptable

That’s why I personally would ask for an appointment and talk it through, perhaps with VP present. I’d not expect them to be honest but at the very least I’d watch their reaction to my questions.

The VP isn't close enough to my work to know how I can improve. Neither is the CEO. I figure if I'm really in trouble, I'd be hearing from the VP or the CEO directly. They call me whenever there's a problem to discuss.

I agree - I think she already has a beef with me, whatever that may be.

No other former supervisor has acted this way before. It is not standard practice in our company. This woman is doing this by her own will and volition.

I’d ask your supervisor then. If in her eyes you are doing things wrong, then what needs to happen so it’s not an issue anymore.

It’s crazy there are only 20 or so people in this tiny company and they have more bosses than necessary yet they don’t know what employees can do better so supervisors get off their backs. Kind of insane. Poorly run business

Id ask her then. Was it a policy in her previous job or is there are other reasons she wants VP to know every time you make a mistake. I don’t do guessing game.
