A little back ground. I have been home since March of 2020. I rarely go out and I like it that way. But in the months of corona, I have gotten medical procedures and gone shopping, and managed not to get the rona. (I have been checked by antibody tests and t cell tests) It is my theory that you need to be under the same roof with it for 3+ hours.

So when everyone started getting vaccinated I said... well let's just see how this pans out. I figured returning to work would be the end date and I would get vaccinated. But while I was home, alone, there was little point. Plus if you don't need the vaccine is just prudent to see if problems arise with it. Also, and I was vindicated on this, I felt it was dumb vaccinating people during the spring when, covid cases were low. It seemed much smarter to get it during the virus season.. here that is the fall and winter. So you could have the greatest protection at the most dangerous time. I have to go into work for a 2 week period in October so I figured that would be the end date.

Eventually though my company put into place a policy mandating it.

The policy was confusing and kept changing. The first policy that came out said we could be tested 2x per week. I went out and purchased at home covid tests. That was a waste of money.

Then the second policy came out and said that we would not be able to test. BTW we are all sitting at home.

In the end, I saw the writing on the wall and decided to get vaccinated. But I didn't tell my employer so I was still on the unvaccinated list.

So I was on the other end of a NASTY e-mail that came out. Informing us that we had 1 day, ONE, to get tested. And, not only did we need to provide clean results on Monday but, they would not pay for the tests. And they would not accept home tests.

NO NOTICE AT ALL

One of my co workers was crying about it... I gave her a call. I feel for her. She was caught completely off guard. She was being reasonable and waiting for direction from them. She scheduled a physical with her doctor to make sure she was an ok candidate for the vaccine but of course she had to wait 4 months for it... and now she was being forced like this.

Not to mention that they seem to be forcing an employment action by not giving her sufficient time.

It is just the bullying nature of it. To know that your fellow employees and employer (BTW who are supposed to be compassionate) are teaming up against you because they can.. not because there is any need, is just horrible. Also to know that, in part, they phrased their words due to "who was on the unvaccinated list" is even more damning.

I don't work for a for profit institution but they are supposed to be compassionate and protect the rights of the individual. They are supposed to be fair and hear both sides... but, they don't care about my side.. they don't care about reality... ok that was bad enough but to have them come after certain people.... in such a horrible and predatory way...

Very much upset me and has me seriously considering leaving.

I snapped at one of my bosses last week and the truth is, I just can't stand him anymore. I can't stand the place... and there will be more angry snaps.

But on the other hand I tend to get the most angry about protecting other people and put other people before myself. So my friend there objectively is being a bit stupid. She is worried about the vaccine imho or kind of stupid reasons. When i saw the second policy I knew it was just a matter of time and went out and got vaccinated... but she continues to persist that she is going to write a letter explaining her feelings. I warned her not to.. I said they obviously don't care... but..

I have done a great amount of research on the vaccines and how to insure you don't have a bad reaction (and I didn't) I only hope that she listens to that and is comforted.

Just to know that as an employee they can do whatever they want with you.. like a modern day slave... disgusts me.

I will tell you that in this particular issue, since you have already complied just let it be. Do not get involved any further on behalf of your colleague. Let them worry about themselves. Unfortunately, they may come out on the losing end but everyone needs to make decisions based on their own situation.

I personally feel that we should all be able to make our own decisions about it, but unfortunately these companies have decided to be inflexible and I've also found that they don't care what we as employees think - and to voice any opposing opinion makes you stick out and they view you as being "difficult." Which is not true, I think people have legit questions regarding the topic, but they are being bullied into silence. I will say I have paid attention to the behavior of the leaders of my company and I no longer think they have the best interests of their people in mind.

I went into work yesterday and WOW.. so many people are bitter and upset. A lot of people at work are upset they have to cover for my friend, but she isn't able to come into work because her boss won't let her.

One co worker is upset because she has asthma and is overweight and she has to go into work with people who *might* have the rona. So she asked to get someone to cover for her... (She is vaccinated) and they said no. She is very bitter about that.

But I kind of can't agree with her. She has not so great boss and her not so great boss wants her in every 10 seconds... I used to have a not so great boss.. and I had to be in every 10 seconds... broken toe, come in, terrible cold, come in, sick to your stomach... come in... so bad that I maintained a search for something that would stop me getting colds (found in vitamin D). She isn't even sick, she is just concerned about being sick.

I have to say also, seeing the writing on the wall that eventually we were going to have to go back... and covid probably wouldn't be completely disposed of... I got my health in order and lost 40 lbs... But this co worker, with at least a year before she had to go into the office... didn't.

So I felt like saying "welcome to the party pal". Not to mention that I think she spread a rumor that people were covering for me on my vacation (which I had to take under use or lose) that they were covering for me because I was unvaccinated. Which was not true... I had scheduled a vacation properly and gotten coverage.

I also feel that these sort of people are ruining it for the rest of us. The constant jealousy and requests not to have to come in will just lead to the managers and such getting fed up with the entire thing. We all knew there might be a period in the future where we had a lot of work to make up for the work we didn't do at the start of the pandemic...

I mean we have been home for 20 months -- that is a crazy gift.

This whole thing is just crazy... everyone is upset at everything.

They finally mandated the vaccine where I work last month. I think there are a couple of unvaccinated people. They have to get weekly tests and wear a mask at all times. We have been at work for months though. As chemists we can't work from home. A lot of people in other sections have been working from home and they are scared of going in to work.

I have to go into work in a week for an extended period.

I am even a little nervous about it because, to me, it seems unsafe. But to me it seems most unsafe for other people in the room, not me.

I am looking around for other work... we have an issue now where no one can get time off because no one can cover for them and the powers that be refuse to make people who are not generally busy cover for them.

I am and have always been working from home. For my company to require vaccination for me to work in MY OWN HOME is ridiculous. I have never been to "the office" and the office is 2 states away and I will never be required to go there.

That's where I'm coming from. I pay for my own home. I provide my internet that I use to work and yet you are reaching your tentacles into my house to require a medical intervention for me when you have never nor will you ever see me in person.
