What are the best retail chain stores to work at in your opinion? From what I can Google Costco is #1. But Target is also good. I had a job interview at Target in 2017 and it seemed kind of intense. But it was during the Christmas season too. I’d prefer to be some place that doesn’t get massively crowded during the holidays and where I’d have mandatory 8 hour shifts 7 days in a row and then my hours be cut by 90% immediately after Christmas.

But in your expirence what is the best place to work at?

How about IKEA, Home Depot, or Starbucks? I even think working at McDonald's might be worth it since you can work your way up and become a manager eventually.

I applied to Costco but never heard from them.

I think applying to these places is difficult due to the huge number of people applying.

But, if you know someone else working at these places, such as Costco; it might help as a referral.

I wish you the best in finding a job now. I heard many places are seeking workers. It might be a good time to apply!

Yeah I’ve also heard it’s really hard to get a job at Costco. But then someone else who’s usually just full of herself when she is speaking said it’s easy and a lot of perverts work there.

I can’t work until next year. But I’m just trying to do my research now.

I’ve also been thinking of Big Lots since it looks like an easy store to work at. I looked at the employee reviews on indeed and they weren’t great.

Home Depot I’ve heard is a really good place to work for.

Tjx company (homesense, tjmax, Homegoods, tkx, marshals, Sierra outpost etc) is a very flexible company to work for with variety of different stores, shift and task options (stock, flow, register, back room, floor, management training, morning, days, evenings etc). They don’t pay well though. But it’s a good one for a side/part time job. I work for them on a side during holidays/breaks/random times I need extra money etc I work when I want and how much I want. Easy stress free supplement for my income/travel money etc

No mandatory shifts. You work when you can and how much you can

And they hire anyone.

I don’t know about your area. Here in Midwest we have extreme shortage everywhere. Everyone is hiring anyone who wants to work. Places close early due to lack of employees. You’ll be hired anywhere

My last job was for TJX. I loved it. I could take so many days off in a row with zero questions asked except for “how was your vacation?” From the store manager. I also took Black Friday off and the 2 days after Christmas off my last year working there and no one cared. When I first started it was mainly just a bunch of *****y people my age. So it was tough at first since some weren’t very nice. But when I left it was mostly just older people. I fit in well and I was part of the “in” crowd. But I kinda messed up getting a second chance to return.

And also the people at the store in my new state seemed kinda creepy and not very nice. And since they had my file they could see my history and see that I had worked as female before. They didn’t say anything but I felt kinda awkward. They did say they were really accepting of LGBTQ people so I took that as a hint that they knew.

Yes as long as you request off ahead of time they can’t say much. I mean honestly, they don’t pay well and most people are there part time. If they start being obnoxious, people would not stick around so it’s in their interest to be flexible

Management might know. But it’s no ones business. And they better don’t tell other staff. It’s private

DSW is a great company to work for. They are very LGBTQ-friendly/supportive. My past experiences working for them were very positive, they are progressive. I actually came out to my boss (who was gay so being LGBTQ won't prevent you from moving up in this company. I had a transgender manager at another DSW store I worked at) about being transgender. And he changed my name tag and spent a lot of time talking to me and being very supportive. While he was there, people respected my pronouns and were very accepting. I also love how they have trans as a gender option on their employee surveys.

Working in retail right now makes me a little nervous. A lot of stores have been going out of business where I live because of the pandemic. So if you do choose a retail company, make sure it's very stable. Do research and see if they're closing a lot of stores down.
