I just wanted to say I think youre doing an amazing job! Working under such pressure and youre doing it!!!!

As for the tingling, it sounds like your ulnar nerve has been effected, its the nerve that sticks out on your elbow and run down your arm into your hand and ring and pinkie fingers.
If youve been leaning on the desk this can happen. Its really common.

I still recommend you go to your doctor to get checked, I just wanted to say that it doesnt sound like its much to worry about!

I hope the tingling stops soon and keep up the good work with your job!!

Oh yeah tingling is probably due to being at a computer all day. Doctor might recommend something to help out with symptoms.

THANK YOU!

Yes, I believe that's what the issue is. I am getting a better ergonomic computer set up this evening to help.

My new medical insurance hasn't been processed yet even, so I cannot see a doctor until it is. UGH!

Thanks, divine.

Yep - I need a doctor, but cannot even see one until insurance kicks in.

I am super intimidated and overwhelmed right now.

I feel really inadequate in my new job. My colleagues are so far ahead of me, and yes, granted, they all have a few more years of experience than I do, so that makes me more junior to them, but I feel inadequate. Their work is far superior to mine as well as their knowledge level. I feel like I have four years of experience vs ten. I feel like I am so behind from where I should be. And I am most resentful right now of my last company for not teaching me a single thing that will help me in my work EXCEPT for reporting and client relations.

My colleagues all are able to make these incredible graphs and charts in Excel - it's been YEARS since I've used Excel in that way.

And, in my last job, reporting was entirely automated. In this job, it's a manual process, and we have to develop not only super graphs and charts in Excel, but then we have to put the entirety of a report into Powerpoint slides, all fancy and beautiful looking. I am not adept at Excel OR Powerpoint.

It's not just Excel and Powerpoint, either. It's my knowledge level.

I feel like I am going to fail - I don't think I can do this level of work, and I am very scared that it's far beyond my capabilities. And this company has incredibly high standards.

I think I am going to end up getting fired. I don't know what to do whatsoever and I am totally freaking out.

Oh Lordy. Why couldn't I have landed a job that was easier for me? I know this is the level I SHOULD be at, but it's sooo freaking hard to meet them at this level and meet their standards. Every day I am sweating it out.

I have Monday off from work, so I am going to spend the day studying and working, nonetheless. The only answer I can come up with is to work really really hard, and to spend extra time outside of work hours working and studying up.

Studying and working hard is a good solution. Honestly Excel is NOT easy if you want to use it for more than basic spreadsheet. I’d take a class ASAP.

Did they not ask you all this on the interviews? Like did they not ask what kind of stuff you can do? Did they not give job description? I’d say it’s on them then.

Another option is to ask if they have lower level positions if you aren’t ready for the higher one? Or maybe a different role?

In a meanwhile maybe I’d keep an eye open or something else what might be out there.

Actually I’d probably tell my boss that in a previous job I didn’t have to do these reports as they were done automatically and you need some time to learn how to do them well so they are pf good quality. Maybe they have some quick tutorials or could assign someone to spend time showing you things.

I think some assumptions were made based on my years of experience, possibly.

I am not going to ask them to lower my position. I have to rise up to the challenge and just learn learn learn as much as I can and as fast as I can.

Yeah.... I need to up my skills in Powerpoint and Excel for certain. I think I will just do this on my own without revealing how little I know.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I realized that while I may not be as advanced as my more senior colleagues, that I DO have knowledge and experience to offer that is valuable and will help me in my role. I need to remember that I actually have learned a lot over the last ten years in my field, and that experience cannot be downplayed or forgotten about. Once again, I need more confidence in myself and in my own talents and abilities. Heck, I've developed websites of my own before, I've overhauled a website in a job once before, and I've learned complex systems and processes before..... if I can do all that, then I can certainly rise to this new challenge. It's really not rocket science - my field - it just takes careful thought and thorough understanding.

I am very concerned about my wrist injury and cannot see a doctor yet. I am most frustrated that my health insurance won't kick in for another 2-3 weeks, and in the meantime, I have an injury?????? The tingling in my fingers is beyond annoying. I've done everything now to make my work station ergonomic, and I bought a wrist brace. At-home treatment states to avoid repetitive tasks or work. The end result is I may need surgery to resolve the issue, which would put me out of work for many months. I cannot believe this is happening.

@Have Hope

You’re doing so incredibly well!
I’m so glad you are rising to this challenge and are looking to develop your skills further. You’re totally right, you do have valuable experience that others maybe don’t have, and they have other experience that maybe you don’t have!
Please be kind to yourself and don’t forget your worth!

I’m so sorry you’re still experiencing the tingling. Hopefully your insurance will be valid soon so you can see a doc. There is a lot that you can try before surgery but it just takes time and patience. Maybe even some physio would help.
Just see what your doc says!
I hope you continue to do well and work hard! Sending lots of hugs

Don’t worry about surgery before you even talk to a doctor. Surgeries are the last resorts and there might be other things one can do. Just wait until you can see a doctor and try not to worry

Microsoft Excel Tutorial - Beginners Level 1 - YouTube
This is just one example of the tutorials they have on YouTube but they are everywhere. As far as your tingling goes even if jts something like carpal tunnel you’ll be referred to a neurologist for an emd test and if they have to do surgery it’s so easy and recovery time is only 6 weeks. I had both hands done at once.

Thank you so much for your encouragement!

Yes, it's very good to remind myself of my skills! I need to be kinder to myself, so thank you for the reminder.

I had read that this condition can become worse and more permanent if not treated, which is my concern.

Thanks, divine.

I can do physical therapy, but still, I need my insurance to kick in. It's hard not to worry when I read things telling me this can become worse and permanent if not treated.

Thanks @sarahsweets!

That's reassuring that's it's only six weeks, but still - six weeks out of work within a new position? YIKES.

Well, good news! I received very positive accolades from my senior colleague on work that he had asked me to do for him. He said that it was exactly what he was looking for! SO, I am very proud of myself for meeting his standards and for being able to do the job well! YAY!
