I see your point. I should clarify further and give more details - that may help in this situation.

So, I do not know if there is a future for me in my current company. My job responsibilities do not spell out a specific career path, and I don't right now see how I can progress within the company - there's no clear path for me there, in other words. To eventually move up from my current role as it is today seems impossible to achieve. I could move into more of a content role, but they're not moving me anytime soon.

This other job opportunity is a hybrid and managerial role that involves responsibilities I think I would like. It's also in a college setting (a well known local university/graduate school), so I would be able to switch out of digital marketing agency life. I don't really want to be in an agency anymore.

The other factor involved is the beyond high expectations of work performance in my current company. My CEO is a perfectionist, and that creates the feeling that the work you do is never good enough. She will always find fault with something you do. I cannot stand that aspect of my current job - the flip side and positive side is it's not a toxic work environment otherwise.

I think most importantly, since I had to reduce my job responsibilities in my current job, I'm afraid that there's no real future for me there. I'm kind of in a no-man's land position that they had to create for me as a result of my mental health breakdown. Now that I am recovered, I don't know where it's leading to.

I hope this helps.... ? Many thanks!

I see. But i still think they are 2 separate problems, thats what i am really focusing on. Dont expect a job to solve the loneliness problem, thats putting too much on the job. What if you hate your new coworkers?

Not the wisest to try to kill 2 birds with one stone, thats all im saying.

Also, dont be driven by some random headhunting call. Look for a job when YOU want to. The way this job has been treating you, i dont see them dumping you on short notice, for example. They seem kind.

I hear ya on those points - they are valid points. And thanks so much for your input!

I suppose it can't hurt to at least explore the job opportunity - if I don't get an offer, then it's not an issue and I stay in my company. If I happen to get an offer, then I have a choice. I think I'd like to keep the possibility open, and then I have options.

Thanks! Talking it through more helped me to make a decision. I will see what they have to offer.

Ok, well, after reading roughly 10 negative reviews on this organization/college, I pulled my application and cancelled the interview.

Each review spoke of a "toxic work environment". "micro aggressions" from upper management, upper management playing the blame game with their underlings, a lack of supportive work culture, a lack of employee morale, a mass employee exodus and revolving door, a lowered benefits package, overworked employees for lower industry pay, a lack of organization in the executive team, HR doesn't care about employees, and a general lack of care for employee well being. Well, that's all I needed to read in order to pull the plug on this one.

In contrast, my current company 100% supports their employees, they deeply care about maintaining a high employee morale and they care about employee well being, they care about upholding a strong company culture that respects each employee along the chain. It is a very unique and healthy work environment! I am too scared to leave that especially when I read so many negative reviews coming from employees of this other organization. I finally have a healthy work environment - something that has been missing in my life for YEARS.

So, even though I am uncertain of my career path in my current company, at least I am treated really well, with respect and I am cared about.

So, no thanks to this college... I am glad I cancelled.

Aside from the above it is a great place to work! 😝
