I am now very much on edge because I didn't hear anything today. The recruiter said she will contact me as soon as she hears back from the team. UGH.

I am in a quandary. What if I get the job and then again, don't like it? What do I do then? I will be stuck in it and cannot change jobs again.

Is client services really where I should be? Now I don't know. I am pretty certain, like 99.99% certain I want to change fields. And I am good with people. I am good at building relationships - it's my forte. But what if I am not good at this job like I think I will be? What if it's too much for me?

They said it's a six month learning curve, and that others have been overwhelmed by how much there is to learn. So, have there been others before me that did not work out in this job? The recruiter initially told me that the person had been promoted - the one that was in the position I am applying for - and that's why it's available. But had others tried it and failed? I need to know this answer before committing.

And what if I am just running away from the challenge of having to learn new ways of doing things in my current job?

Then again, I feel like their standards are far too high, and I feel I cannot reach their standards. I handed in a project and thought I had done the best I could do on it and my boss said it was at about 70% completion.

I feel I am not equipped for digital strategy anymore. I am having to come up with 90 blog topics/blog titles and I am struggling. I was struggling to build a web page from scratch. I don't know what that page should look like, unless I completely copy other's pages. I am being asked to do very difficult things that I feel are beyond my existing skill set.

I am full of angst.

Honesty I don’t think you can ever have an answer. Pretty much every time you switch jobs you take a risk. And it’s ok. You look at pro and con to the best of your knowledge but most of the time you just don’t know and you just dive in, do your best and see how it goes. I’d say if your current job is satisfactory I’d not go looking for a new job for awhile. But if it’s not, you have nothing to lose. Fingers crossed you get an offer

Thanks, divine, this is helpful.

My current job is not satisfactory, I'd say. I am not thrilled with it, and that's why I've been looking around.

The new company is a company I've been looking at for a while now. I told my interviewers that I had applied for a different role there a couple of years ago. As far as I recall, that's true.

I like that females are in leadership roles in the new job, I work in a male dominant field, so that is most refreshing for me. I liked my interviewers, and better than when I interviewed in my current company.

In my current company? The reference check was 33 questions long, that a reference had to complete! I thought it was insane at the time. Two of my references did not respond to this, when I contacted them to complete the form. I wouldn't have responded either!

But this says a LOT about my current company, I think. About their expectations and demands of people.

Still no word about the job, and I meet with my CEO on Monday. What is she going to say to me? Is she going to offer me a lesser role? Is she going to let me go? I know I am not earning my salary right now, with the level of work I am doing. I am nervous.

Thank you!! It turns out my meeting with my CEO isn’t for a couple of weeks. So I don’t need to worry right now - yay!

Yay

Maybe they will give you a less stressful job instead of letting you go

Yes, maybe. I have a feeling she will want to lower my salary, given the tasks I am performing now. They are lower level tasks that do not deserve my high salary.

So, no rejection letter and no offer letter. I don't think I am getting the job. It's a week after my final interviews, and still no word from them. When is it appropriate to follow up again to find out? Last time I emailed the recruiter was last Wed. Should I wait until the end of this week?

Ok. I decided not to follow up again. I've already reached out to the recruiter as of last Wednesday, who said she would be in touch the moment she heard something from the team. I will wait and be patient, in this case.

So, today in my current job I was given two quite unreasonable tasks by my manager and I pushed back on both. Each are beyond my knowledge and capabilities and therefore I feel they’re being unreasonable. I was upset all day about this. Another colleague was thrown the same task as me and concluded it was unreasonable. I am a bit miffed.

And now, today, I have to return to one of the unreasonable tasks that I have left to do. And, I am pretty certain I cannot complete the task as required of me. I don't know what to do. I worry that they gave me this impossible task in order to prove or show that I am inept in the job so that they can get rid of me legally.

I guess I will have to approach my colleague who is supervising this task, and tell him that it's an impossible task for me to accomplish? I really don't know what to do and am in a huge quandry over it. I want to be able to complete this, as asked of me, but it's far too difficult and I am afraid I will do it incorrectly because I am simply guessing and guessing is really my only option.

What do I do?

Is the colleague aware of the impossibility of the task? Would they be be able and willing to help/guide you in coming up with something doable?

Thanks, Bill! I think they’re aware. I’m going to have to ask the supervisor for additional guidance. I have no option but to bring the difficulty to his attn.
