I filled out a job application today and it asked me if I was getting SSI. I said yes because you can't Iie about stuff like that. I'm just wondering if they will still consider hiring me. At my last job I had to have my boss fill out some paperwork SS needed and the next week my hours were instantly cut from 5 days down to 2 days and the only explaination I was given by my boss was "I'm on a budget too."

It's hard to know what decision that your prospective employer will make, based on you being transparent about your SSI. I think employers are required to offer 10 hours a week per the legislation? There isn't a cap on the weekly amount of hours. However, there is cap on the weekly income you can earn with your employer, is my understanding.
How Many Hours Can You Work On SSI? | Disability Help Supplemental Security Income (SSI) helps low-income individuals who are elderly, blind, or disabled. Unlike the SSDI, the SSI allows claimants to work. In order to understand how many hours you can work while on SSI, let's first talk about what the program is about and what an SGA is. What Is Supplementary Security Income (SSI)? According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), SSI is paid to disabled individuals who earn little or no money. There are strict financial requirements to qualify for SSI, but eligibility is not determined by employment history. There is no cap on the number of hours you can work on SSI; rather, there is a cap on the amount of money you can earn in a month. To register in 2022, you must earn less than $841 in monthly taxable income and have fewer than $2,000 in assets. The limit is $3,000 for a couple. The distinction between SSI and SSDI is that SSI claimants are encouraged to work as much as possible. Because only about half of your income is counted toward the Social Security Administration's income totals, the $794 monthly limit is frequently closer to $1,500. Your monthly payment is determined by your income. If your income reduces while you are receiving SSI, your benefits may be raised to the $841 maximum. Your payments will reduce as your income improves. Even if your income exceeds the amount required to qualify for SSI, you may still be able to retain your Medicaid. Additionally, if you have significantly high medical bills, you can apply to purchase Medicaid from the state's Medicare organization. |

MD, my guess would be that your employer needs to know in case they have to report your income to SS because you receive SSI.

Its been 48 hours and based on what I've read on Glassdoor and other sites about this particular company, I should have heard something by now. My expirence and qualifications were excellent and my work history was almost identical to the tasks that would be involved in this new job. So idk what is up. I thought this job would be a shoe in so I didn't fill out any other applications.

Sometimes at the end of a job application I'll see those questions too. I think it's a state / govt thing that doesn't (shouldn't) affect your chances of an interview. Is that what the question was like? Or was it on the actual application? Regardless, keep applying to jobs. Putting all your eggs in one basket can be disappointing.

I think my avaliabilty might be the issue. I looked at the job postition hours and the job starts a lot earlier then the time I put down I could start. My application is still open so I'm still hopeful but I've been looking at other options too.

I’ve never ever seen a question about SSI on any job applications. None. Regardless if it was professional full time or minim wage supplemental part time job. I think it comes up later when you do tax forms. Weird they ask before they even talked to you

I've seen the questions and they cover whether you are someone who receives benefits, are a veteran, etc., because often the state or federal government gives incentives to businesses to employ people who identify as such and the information is also used to provide statistical information to government entities.
If the ad identified specific hours and you didn't put that kind of availability on your application, then it wouldn't be unusual for them to not respond. Also if they are looking for 20 hours in a week and you give an availability of 12 or 15 hours, they wouldn't bother responding in that case either. Try to read the availability requirements carefully before you apply and apply only to jobs you fit into and you'll have more success. Also, you need to be putting in multiple applications because waiting for each one to be accepted/rejected/not responded to is always going to be disappointing and cause you to spend a lot of time not employed. |
