So almost 2 years after I started working from home, Monday we return to work. The good news is, they have pressed some people into service so that we can do some telework.
The bad news is there is substantial factors against us. 1. One of my co workers has streight out told me he doesn't want to telework and, he resents that I get to. Now he alleges that his boss doesn't want him to telework, but I suspect that if he wanted to he would simply ask her for the ability. He hasn't. 2. Another of my co workers wants to work from home but refuses to ask his boss. Both of these people not asking their boss for a little telework time means that the future of this program is in doubt for me. 3. At this point I am very confused about what we are doing and how, exactly things need to be done. Since management seems to be as well, I fear things will go badly and people will complain and it will be laid at the feet of telework. This hybrid schedule is causing a lot of confusion and it necessarily causing problems. For instance some people cannot remember to ask if the meeting will be in person or telework... when we have an inperson meeting -- some people are requesting not to be in person, doubling the work for me. Because now I have to set up a zoom and get it to them (typically at the last moment). I will send something out that says the meeting is "in person" and I will get a hundred questions.. "is this in person?" "Do we all have to be in person" - from all of them. I am also unsure that this will last at all. One of the bosses got covid... and it set his schedule back weeks. We got a email the other day telling us not to come to work if we are sick. But honestly, I wake up just about every morning with a sore throat... am I to constantly call out? As if that is an honest reality anyway. There isn't anyone to cover for me. I feel like when covid numbers start up again in the summer -- as they will - we will be back to at home. One reason I have taken most of my vacation before July. Anyway.. we will see how it goes. |

Wow, that situation sounds unbearable. What a complex and thorny set of problems. I am so sorry that you are in the middle of it and being crushed from all sides. I hope your work place will come up with some solutions that don't place additional burdens upon you! Wish I knew what to say that would help!

Ugh went to work yesterday. I didn't even move around that much and I am in SO MUCH PAIN.
Just not used to standing/ walking etc for 10+ hours. And of course, when I arrived for my train at the end of the day it was delayed and I had stand for 20 minutes -- no seats. |

You went to work, that is amazing even if pain was the outcome. Giving oneself credit for a simpleish thing is a positive.
And no matter what happens find something to be grateful for, even if it's a tiny thing. Working in this crazy world of ours and having challenges is never easy. The strength that can be found by surviving and thriving helps others around. Share your light and be grateful you have a job, for money, for connection, and for the little things. |

You are not alone. My husband's office tried to go back hybrid recently. It has been a mess too. They are an office of a public agency that provides legal advice to low-income people. It took forever to get the office back to normal. Internet wasn't working, they had to bring things over from a different office they worked in pre-pandemic, the place had to be deep cleaned and an exterminator came in (rats!).
Finally, they started working in shifts, but since nothing was done to inform the community they are back in the office no one shows up. They do the same stuff they are doing at home, with slower computers and worse internet. Plus, they have to commute. He is kind of relieved that last week the internet cables were stolen, so their boss told the regional manager that they cannot go to the office if they have no internet. The court system is all online as is the systems they use to track their work. Good luck, I hope things improve. Maybe people will get more used to the new system and there will be fewer misunderstandings. Or, a lot of people will get sick and you will all be telecommuting again. That happened to a few offices at my husband's agency. |

You were so right, people are getting covid left and right, unfortunately... no one has gotten seriously sick, even the very old people I work with. Though it has caused delays. Lucky for me I didn't have to go in lately... I went over a week with no need to go in, but this week I will have to go in 4 of the 5 days. But I might leave early. Not sure it is really necessary to be in all day. But I can't quite figure out how to manage the commute home in the middle of the day unless I do it at 12.. when most people take their lunch. |

So I knew it was going to be like this. We had a meeting set for today that i have to go in for. It is ONE meeting so it is sort of a waste of time. So one of the key attendees indicated yesterday he may not be able to make it as he has another commitment that is running long.
So I tried to get my boss to move the meeting. Nope, 90% of the people have to lug into work today because he won't move the meeting and -- the meeting probably isn't going to happen because the key player wont' be there. So 4 or 5 people have to lug in for nothing. So I pay for parking for no reason, I have to be in for no reason. This is really going to make me resentful.
