Hi everyone,
I have tried a lot of things to find work. Now I'm quite depressed. I don't have immediate financial problems. (I try to see the positive) But I struggle to try again. As soon as I put myself in front of the computer to maybe send a CV or do anything that is related to work search, I don't feel good. Maybe I'm also bottling up my anger and frustration and this is making things worse. What's your experience as long time work seeker? __________________ --------------------------------------------- Love is louder! |

Seeking work when inflation is running wild and there is still COVID stuff going on is a nightmare. I think you are very courageous given everything going on. Wish I knew what to say that would be helpful but sadly I am at a loss. Hopefully others here will have better words for you today than my poor words! I also hope that success will come your way and soon!

I can't speak for where you are, but here it is hard for long term unemployed to get work, when i was out of work for several years due to some family members deciding they knew better than me and pretty much making me move from my grandma's house into my mum's house (before I got to know the ex), due to transport where Mum lived it made it really hard to get work, then employers decided "you been out of work for a long time, plus you have mental health issues, we won't employ you" (the first one they actually said, second one was the thinks bubble above their heads)
It took me moving up here where I currently live, and my workplace opening up here, for a employer to finally give me a chance |

I see you're in France, and I was under the impression attitudes are more open minded than here in the US....
The unemployed or long-term unemployed, are instantly stigmatized here. You're expected to find work in an arbitrary time frame of 6 months, after that you're treated like road kill. We do victim blaming or shaming here a lot, and it's tragic people are defined what they DO here. You have to be either working or in school, if not you're "lazy". Anyway, I feel for you and can relate. The longer it goes on, the harder it is to keep going, I know. I was once given a chance by a company then they let me go in just 2 weeks. I'm still reeling from it. Yaowen is right that it's extra brave to do it with COVID still around and the price of things. Now the big guns like Facebook and Twitter are letting people go, owned by 2 of the richest men on earth. They are "sorry". Yeah, I bet. All I can go is send you hugs and let you know I feel your pain. Age is a barrier too, as I'm in my 60's and there's certain types of work I'm just not physically capable of doing. Or certain hours of working, like 8pm to 1am. NO WAY. __________________ Call me "owl" for short! Hmmm....looks like some good tips in here. "Okay, enough photos. The US is a brutal culture. I don't get why anyone wants to come here, and I get why they leave. I wish I could. Certain occupations were considered "essential" by the government when COVID hit, then everyone else was considered "non-essential". How's that for a slap in the face??? We are ALL ESSENTIAL. We ALL MATTER. __________________ Call me "owl" for short! Hmmm....looks like some good tips in here. "Okay, enough photos. I'm a very BUSY Business Kitty, so make an appointment next time." |

Yet I read somewhere on this site that the UK looks down on people down on their luck or unemployed, etc. too??! It was months ago and I don't remember the thread or forum even. And I've read stuff online too. The mindset is the same, towards the homeless as well.

We could easily work just 3 days a week because we produce even too much. Everyone would work and stigma would disappear. But probably it would appear somewhere else. It's still a toxic culture, the Western one. Here it may be not as brutal as in the States, but discrimination is rampant as well. We are human beings, we love to help each other, cooperate, trust, and live. The destroying forces in society are strong, but we really want to choose Love and do something kind to ourselves and, if we can, to others. A big hug to everyone, just for a start. __________________ --------------------------------------------- Love is louder! |
