I don't think I'm up for a 4 year degree just yet, but I'm interested in doing something like an associate degree or some training or a certificate program. I've always been interested in the medical field (loved playing doctor as a child-splinting up "broken bones" and such).

Just looking for some ideas. I'm not easily grossed out or anything like that. I can really only work limited hours too because schizophrenia/bipolar and stress don't mix well in my experience. I can stand, walk around, sit, whatever, do paper work, for hours. I can do anything, just not for long periods of time all day every day of the week.

Right now I'm volunteering at an animal shelter and it's going well. It involves medicating cats and dogs as well as cleaning up their messes and feeding them. I've always been good at math and science, but I'm also a competent writer (published poet).

My peer specialist wants me to make a long term goal so I have something to aim for instead of just trying to survive day by day.

I'd also be interested in something like crisis intervention. Like one of those people who go in and assess people in the ED and decide if they need to be hospitalized, do PHP, IOP, or just need to follow up with a psychiatrist/therapist.

Any type of radiology? Like ultrasound technician?

Associate degree used to be enough to be an RN but now you need undergrad degree.

I was thinking rad tech, EMT, phlebotomist, or something like that. Just looking for as many ideas as possible.

Yup. Phlebotomist is a good one too. I think radiology pays better

Medical biller, medical coder, medical assistant, LPN, Medical secretary.

Good ideas. The only thing is most hospitals don’t hire LPNs anymore. Most LPNs end up going back to school now or end up in some undesirable positions.

Oh ok. I just know that LPNs work in many doctors offices around here. Hospitals, I don't know.

Keeping in line with your current volunteer work you could also look in to veterinarian tech.

I was a CNA years ago. Then I had a car accident and couldn't do the work anymore. It took a long time, but now I am healed enough to do it again. I've completed my classes and am waiting to do the skills portion of my test. I already have a job offer, assuming all goes well with the rather complicated onboarding process. I'm soon going to be a CNA again! And I am so happy about it!

There may be hospitals or faciilties that will either pay for CNA training or reimburse you for it. Some hospital emergency departments employ sitters, to watch patients one on one if they are there for SI reasons. They may be able to employ a person with only a high school diploma, but then they would like you to have your CNA within a certain time of being hired. Regulations vary from state to state.

If it floats your boat, being a medical receptionist usually requires only a high school diploma, and it is a vital role.

Yeah, I kinda figured EMT would be more like my summer job as a ride operator in that it's stressful but it's the good stressful (like skiing a double black diamond or rock scrambling). By stressful I mean stuff like calling insurance companies regularly.

I'm currently a front desk receptionist at a medical clinic. I really love it, no degree required. Before that I was a caregiver at a senior living facility as well as in home care.

I am not sure we are talking about same thing? EMTs are saving lives and have to act extremely fast making huge life changing decisions. Ride operator? Like checking tickets at the rides? I am not sure in which way these jobs are similar or have similar stress level?

You’d be calling insurance companies regularly if you have a medical biller/medical office type of job. Those who actually provide medical service like nurses or radiology technician do not call insurance so you are safe there

Eh, people jump off rides, into active ride areas, fight in the queue, and do other stupid sh.it, small children get lost and injured, rides malfunction and if you don't react in time people could get hurt/die, fires start, PLCs break, Karens and Kevins will physically threaten you for not letting their newborn on the bumper cars with them. 98% of the time it's not life or death, but we don't check tickets. That's at the gate. Nowhere near EMT stressful, but more stressful than scanning barcodes all day.
