So, last night my goal was to only drive 3.5 hours from 8:00 p.m. to 11:30 pm.

My rideshare passengers were normal until the last couple of the evening. I picked up a $25 rideshare passenger and his female companion expecting to commute 35 minutes to their destination (and hopefully earn a nice tip).

That didn't happen. The couple that I picked up started smoking pot within 15 minutes of the drive. I had to pull off the freeway and into a mall area where there were 24/hr eateries open.

I kicked them both out then called the police and the rideshare customer service. I filed a report and the couple are now banned from that rideshare app. I requested a cleaning fee to have the rideshare app pay for interior detailing (to get rid of the pot smell). That request is pending.

I did call the police and he sympathized with me when I asked him for help. He said that since pot is decriminalized now, it was legal for them to smoke pot in my car. I can't file a police report since rideshare doesn't give drivers the passengers real names (people put in whatever name they want to in ride requests, so that makes it impossible to track them unless its the rideshare's customer support team who has their SSN and banking information.

I left the couple at the 24/hr eatery and drove home. I immediately jumped into the bath and did a load of laundry to get rid of the pot smell on my person and my clothing.

Now, I'll have to ask every single future passenger if they have pot and tell them I will cancel their ride if their light up in my car.

What a traumatic experience that was. Some people are reall assholes.

I don’t know what it is, but people who smoke pot seem to think they can smoke it anywhere. We get a lot of that in hotels and it REEKS, they have no idea how much it stinks and try to lie and say nobody was smoking. $250 please, and the room has to be out of service for days while the ozone machine gets the smell out. Grrrr.

I'm relieved to know that you can personally sympathize with my horrible experience. I do agree with you @Molinit that pot smokers have a delusional sense of entitlement and walk around thinking they're wearing one of the Three Deatlhy Hallows, the Cloak of Invisibility. Unfortunately for them, however, EVERYONE can see their antics and even worse, SMELL their recreational activity when it invades public spaces unexpected AND uninvited.

These two baffoons were stoned out of their gourds and were yelling "we're going to kick your *** and give you bad reviews!" when I kicked them out of my car.

Pot reeks SO BAD. I won't hold my breath about receiving a cleaning fee from the rideshare app, since pot smell is invisible to cameras. But I will submit a photo of my car's passenger area with the explanation that I need to have the pot smell removed with an interior cleaning. I read on rideshare forums that the rideshare app won't give you a cleaning fee unless you file a dispute and complain up the chain of command.

Since I start my new job tomorrow, I am going to email "complain" up the chain of command today after I submit my "cleaning fee request" with the photo of my car's interior and ask that my account be deposited with the cleaning fee asap. If they refuse, I will go from there.

I am sorry that you have to deal with pot smokers at your hotel. I imagine that cleaning those rooms gets to be rather expensive since marijuana reeks so bad. I sympathize for you, too.

Omg how terrible.

Even though it’s legal, I do not believe they can smoke in Uber or similar ride shares. It might not be a criminal activity but it’s against any kind of public policy.

Cigarettes were always legal, but still you can’t smoke them in many if not most public places. Alcohol is legal but chugging vodka from a visible bottle is prohibited in most public places.

I know taxis usually have a sign of them no smoking. Could you put a sign “no smoking” or something?

This isn’t a discussion of this thread but even though I am ok with decriminalizing pot (no need to put people in jail), but I am absolutely against people doing it in public places!

Not only it is gross smell but it affects people’s ability to function, same as alcohol. Not everyone just mellows down, it’s a known fact that many become aggressive. Your passengers could get so high that they could start acting out of control.

Cigarettes are gross but it doesn’t affect one’s ability to think straight. Personally I’d put sign “no smoking” and specify weed and cigarette and vaping. And remind people when they get inside your car “I have no smoking and no vaping policy”.

Oh I saw now they threatened “to kick your …..”. See, they were so high they became aggressive. Pot might be legal but how is it legal to make threats?

It’s kind of sad all together that such a huge chunk of population is stoned on a frequent basis starting with young age. Sure people also drink to excess but alcohol is more obvious and detectable. Someone might be high on edibles or something less smelly and you wouldn’t know they are stoned yet they drive on the roads, threaten people’s safety and cause endless problems because their state of mind is altered and they don’t think straight
