I work for a non profit that provides a lot of different services to people living with mental illness. I have two part time jobs with them. The first is working on their mental health telephone support line, the second is facilitating addictions recovery meetings for people with concurrent disorders.

The telephone support line has 2 numbers, a local number that has been in service over 30 years, and a toll free national number that was launched during the pandemic and is funded by the Federal government. I found out on Fri. that the government is stopping funding the national line effective April 3.

This is bad news for me, as the bulk of my hours are on the national line. With it being eliminated, I'm going to see my hours cut from around 32/ week to 11-15.

There is the possibility that my hours on the concurrent disorders job will be increased which would partially offset the cuts to the phone line, but I'm not counting on that.

The only thing that's going to help me in this situation is that I'm still on disability payments from the province. With the reduction in my employment income, I'll start getting full benefits again, so I will be ok financially. It's just frustrating.

Guess I need to start looking for a new job.

Oh no how frustrating. I have my faith in you that you’ll find something else. Looking for a job is no fun but something will come up soon.
