First of all, Happy 4th if July everyone. I was promised f/t hours at my new care taking job do that I could get benefits. Now I feel that I was lied to.
I also don’t like the fact that they company didn’t bother fixing the a/c at one group home for 4 years! My client told me that We were all sweating even with the fans on inside the house. The first month there I worked 4 days a week & 8 hours a day. So I was working 32 hours a week. This month they only scheduled me for 2 days a week working 8 hours a day, so that’s only 16 hours!!! I told them that I needed more hours & they said thst they’d try to give me more hours. They did, but it sounds like it’s temporary. I got a double shift one day so I immediately went to see another client afterwards & worked 16 hours in one day!!! Then I got 3 last minute shifts on top of that including a shift for today on the 4th, my birthday. I will unfortunately be working most of the day today because I need the money badly. I’ll be making overtime pay at least. I’m upset that I was lied to. They hured a bunch of new people lately. I heard that they cut other people’s hours too. I don’t understand why they’d hire so many new people when they don’t gave enough hours for everyone. Weird! I saw at least 4-5 new people recently. Why would they do that? The job is good for me otherwise except for having to deal with a few loud clients & coworkers at times. One client is a bit difficult as she normally doesn’t respond to me when I try talking to her. I also was not hsppt about getting clients whose home snrlked like cat piss. There was cat poo on the floor too, disgusting. I had to spend the day in my car like everyone else does since the smell was so strong. Thank goodness for a/c!!! Other than that, it’s relatively stress free. |

HBD, first of all... hope you do something nice after your shift.
Sorry they're cutting your hours, yet have hired more people and have also cut other people's hours. It sounds like they don't want full-time employees, so that they do not have to pay benefits. Also, it's not right that they did fix the AC for 4 years now. I'd send out resume's elsewhere to hedge your bets. |

It isn’t right that they made a promise to me then they ended up cutting my hours! Why couldn’t they just tell me that f/t hours aren’t available instead of lying to me? I was already hired at that point. Obviously they had hours to give me temporarily. I made it clear that I needed benefits. I’m pretty upset about this. It’s extremely difficult for me to find any job, so sadly I need to keep this job as it pays above minimum wage too & it’s super easy & relatively stress free too. |

They don’t want to pay benefits so they don’t give people consistent full time schedule. They might give it for a few weeks like they did with you. It’s common to hire bunch of part time people to work a few hours rather than a few full time employees. Also most part time positions cannot guarantee number of hours. It fluctuates.
If you want job with benefits, you need to only accept full time job with benefits. I don’t recommend taking on part time job with hopes for more hours and benefits. It’s typically too unstable. |

He should’ve never said tyat if he couldn’t give me any f/t hours. A coworker said to apply for other companies that will probably give me more hours. He knew that I needed benefits. So to go from 32 hours to 16 is shocking. I had 32 hours for a month each week. A coworker yesterday thinks my hours might’ve been cut since I requested 3 days off this month. I got the days off. I couldn’t get out of a prior commitment that I agreed to before I got this job. Hopefully they don’t think that I’m unreliable now. I was always on time, never had any complaints tgat I’m aware of from anyone, etc… I like this job for the most part as it’s easy & almost stress free, so I’ll keep it. Most companies (especially for service type jobs) won’t hire f/t employees let alone offer any benefits aside from an insulting 10-15% off employee discount at most places. |

As the other folks have written, the employers hire many part time employees in order to avoid paying benefits.
What I'd like to add is this: The situation was like this more than forty years ago! The big difference today is that workers have social media with which to organize and communicate about this shady practice. Also I'd encourage you to get promises in writing, and contact your state and federal representative and senator about any trouble you're having. __________________ Major Depressive Disorder; Sleep Apnea; possibly on the spectrum Nuvigil 50mg; Effexor 37.5mg; meds for blood pressure & cholesterol |

It sounds that they were dishonest. There’s no way for us to know why. Sadly, you’ll run into these kind of employers.
I don’t know if I agree that employers don’t hire full time. Most people I know only ever work full time because they need income and benefits. Part time is only sustainable as a supplemental income. If you need full time job with benefits only look for that. What you see is what you get. Doesn’t matter what they promise. Only go with what’s being given to you today and in writing |
