I started a care taker job last month. Recently I got a new client who lives in a house with a few other people who are slobs.

One of the guys has a few cats. The litter box is by the door. I don’t think they clean it often as the house smells extremely bad.

I even saw piles of car poo in three places. Two were in piles & one piece was smeared on the floor. I even pointed that out & they didn’t bother cleaning it.

It’s disgusting! So because of that, all if the caretakers stay in their cars.

Now the manager said that no one can stay in their cars anymore unless they get permission from him otherwise.

This is unacceptable. I texted two managers to complain about this.

Also, the sink in the bathroom & the kitchen isn’t working either.

I don’t know if it’s their responsibility to fix it or not. They do take money from the clients. I work with high functioning autistic adults who live in group homes.

The a/c at another house hasn’t been fixed in 4 years too. Everyone there including the clients are suffering when it’s hot outside.

What can I do if my manager refuses to let us stay in our cars? This is extremely unreasonable! I’m pissed!

My friend said it’s a health hazard & that they can’t make me stay in an environment like that.

What can I do if they refuse to listen to me? This company seems like it’s very cheap & not good as one guys first check took 4 weeks to get via direct deposit.

They were late with everyones pay too for a week around Christmas of last year.

Ridiculous!

Call the city. It’s health hazard for people who live there and they are vulnerable special needs people. City needs to interfere asap like today. Other adults in the house are likely vulnerable as well.

Call adult protective services right now. See bunch of links below

Call adult protective services about both. It's not legal to have those conditions in either house. I used to have to do that sometimes when i worked in home health.

Thanks. I’m worried that they’ll know it’s me as I’m the only person who told them this. My coworker said it’s because no one else wanted them to come around to check on things.

They might also think the company just doesn’t care which is what I’m starting to think too.

Unfortunately no exceptions for staying in the car will be made as I just found out that someone came to that house with a knife the other day threatening people. So because if that, we have to stay inside.

Supposedly they will buy cat litter for those people & fix the sinks but I doubt it as they didn’t fix the a/c at the other house for 4 years!

They will probably relocate the guy with the cats. I’ll contact that place as it’s disgusting, unsanitary & probably illegal to make people work in those conditions.

I feel bad for the people who live there. It’s even worse when it’s hot out! I have a feeling that people will stay in their cars anyways.

One guy at the other house did. The manager stopped by but she didn’t see him there. If she did, he would’ve been written up.

Hopefully they won’t know it’s me.

Thanks, I will. It’s disgusting that they’d expect their employees to work in an unsanitary & toxic environment!

I’ll need to get a doctors note to not be scheduled ar that house anymore, ugh!

I think it is worse that they expect people to live in those conditions. Living there is a lot worse than an 8 hour shift.

That’s true! Idk how the people there can stand it! I tried calling the health department but they’re not accepting calls now.

Call the state agency that the residents are affiliated with and ask to file a neglect/abuse report. That usually changes the situation.

Call the California Disabled Protection Services. Your name will only be known by the person who gets the complaint. However you can just call in an anonymous report,.

I did. I calked adult protective services & they took the info down but I haven’t heard back from them since. I called code violations & an inspector went to the house today. He wasn’t let in though. They told him that he’d need to talk to the manager.

I called other places but no one called me back. The government sucks. No one really wants to help anyone.
