I think what Kathie meant is that she's lived a longer life and experienced much more than a 14 yr old could since she is still living at home. Kathie looks old enough to have been out on her own and had responsibilities and problems that Miss _A couldn't possibly have had... regardless of her maturity.

That's sounds logical, and I appreciate the explanation. However, I still think people misjudge others' ability to help others. Experience is not the quality that is necessary to help others "cope with life." The quality necessary is empathy.
