I don't think you have anything to worry about. I do this too. I have been doing it since I was a child. I do have DID, but this is slightly different than that. I can separate it from my DID symptoms.
I've heard of many others doing this too, and some do it more than others. I think it is kind of a coping skill that some folks use when they are alone, or feeling alone to help them cope and feel like they have someone to talk to.
Besides..you are your own captive audience. Always there when you need yourself.
The type of whispering that Schizophrenics display differs in that they typically are responding to what they hear as external stimuli...sometimes internal, but I've never heard a schizophrenic describe this as them talking to themselves. I've always heard them respond that they were communicating with some other entity.
