I've been assuming that that's among the functions of the "Thanks" button.

If there were a credit points program I think I'd ask to opt out of it. Others are free to agree or disagree with what I post but I wouldn't like to think I was competing for points.

------- Possible digression -------

At a technically-oriented forum where I've occasionally participated, responders do get rated on how well they answer the O.P.'s question. Someone happened to post such a vague question that the only reasonable answer was, "It depends on the kind of device you have. If it's like this, you usually make the settings this way; like that, you often make them that way; if it's this other kind there's nothing to set, it either works or it doesn't." The O.P. didn't find my answer helpful and gave it a low rating. If I'd cared about ratings I'd have started taking care not to reply to questions where the questioner didn't seem to understand what they were asking.
------- / digression -------

I'd be concerned that competing for points would be like an invitation to (a.) seek out the easiest questions and (b.) tell the questioner whatever we thought they were hoping to hear.

Manda86, I like your suggestion . That's pretty much what we're already doing, though, isn't it?

Yoda, I like yours too but I foresee some serious logistical problems: (a.) who'd provide the necessary chocolate? (b.) how would it be delivered to whoever had earned it? and most important, (c.) would it be milk or bittersweet? I'd much rather go on posting for free indefinitely than find myself being bribed with the wrong kind of chocolate .
Thanks for this!
