Hi folks,
This may give you a laugh, although I'm struggling to see the funny side.
So, I'm doing my shopping in the town and a woman who has seen me perform my poetry attracts my attention and chats. She tells me all sorts of stuff about her holiday in Australia - blah blah - and then she says that her partner is retiring from his caretaking job soon.
She says, "He finds it a stressful job, looking after people like you."
Er, hello? - looking after people like me?
Does she think I am in residential home or something? Does she think that artistic people need looking after?
Does she think I'm on the skids?
OK, I know that this is hitting my self esteem. I know it's petty of me to be hurt by it. I want to tell her that I own a very nice house, that I have assets and that I don't need looking after.
Instead I just say nothing and fume to myself.
This kind of stuff never happened in the city, but in this small town I'm trapped by regular people who seem to be crazier than I am! Grrrrrrr.
Cheers, M-venting
