That doesn't sound quite right to me. Are you living in subsidized housing? Or do you have a lease that you can refer to?

Landlords do have the right to kick renters out, but it usually takes a lot of hoops that they have to jump through to get it done & that takes time. If you're in subsidized housing, the landlord has to prove that they've given you warnings prior to this.

I know that you're in Ca, and I'm in Mn, but I'm pretty sure that these laws are similar. If you're renting from a private party, you still have rights! Don't let them freak you out ~ but do know that the landlord does have the right to say that John can't be living with you.
