consequence of bpd or someone elses problem?

Our landlord wants to kick us out for helping a homeless person.

The next door neighbors accused us of having him living with us and do not believe us.

He is not living with us.

The landlord does not believe us either.

She threatened to kick us out with 3 days notice if John keeps hanging out here.

Then she brought up my "bizzarre behavior" as an afterthought.

I thought we were getting along.

There was no warning.

We may be without a home over the weekend unless we can take effective legal action.

I don't think it's about just the homeless guy.

it's about me, too.

But she brings it up NOW instead of ten years ago! Because of John!

That doesn't sound quite right to me. Are you living in subsidized housing? Or do you have a lease that you can refer to?

Landlords do have the right to kick renters out, but it usually takes a lot of hoops that they have to jump through to get it done & that takes time. If you're in subsidized housing, the landlord has to prove that they've given you warnings prior to this.

I know that you're in Ca, and I'm in Mn, but I'm pretty sure that these laws are similar. If you're renting from a private party, you still have rights! Don't let them freak you out ~ but do know that the landlord does have the right to say that John can't be living with you.

I would definitely look up your legal rights here, because I feel like its not legal to kick someone out for a reason like this, ESPECIAlLlY if the homeless person in question wasn't living there.

But I'm sorry that you are having to deal with this. It sounds like you were being nice to someone who truly needed it at the time. Being a good person shouldn't make you have to worry about being evicted

He is not living with us. He is in the hospital and we are bringing all his belongings to him there. Bruce did keep them in our garage, but I told him to return them to him, at the hospital. He was just keeping it for him, he is not living here.

The condition was, though, that if John does come back and knock on our door, or even show up in or near the property, we will be given a 3 day notice. We are renting from a private party and she cannot accuse us of having him live here because that is not true and she does not believe us. I told Bruce "please return his stuff, do not allow him to just come back here for it; that will be it! We will lose our place if he even comes back to the property!"

I pray he will not show up unannounced and we'll be without a home.

I am so scared and cannot believe this is happening.

I understand the landlord's concern, but we are being held accountable and she is not listening to our side and I am scared she might even have us kicked out because of me having a mental illness!

John is in a crisis house now.

I told Bruce, "We must NOT allow him on the property or we will get in trouble."

Not even to visit us, I told him.

We also have a copy of his hospital papers so that we have proof to our landlord that he is not living here.

I pray she will not dismiss concrete documentation.

I'd rather be 'mental' than idiotic and horrible like your landlord...

Trippin, I told Bruce the other night, "The real dangerous mental cases are the ones who spread lies about others, who make others look bad and wish bad things on them. We must remember who we really are. Bobbie may think I am a crazy borderline, but she's unstable and in power and can hurt people and make them wish they were dead. At least I am not like that."

And knowing that helped.

It may not protect me from unfair eviction, but at least I don't feel like a bad person. That's worse!

I can be in a real comfortable mansion and feel like a piece of s***. Or I can be on the street and know that I am a decent human being. I've...just...never...been...homeless...before.
