You're absolutely right. Alcoholics & addicts are selfish people. We think only of ourselves when in the throes of active addiction. The disease is telling us that we are the only one that counts, and that WE aren't hurting anyone else. But I think we REALLY know that's not true because we can see the hurt in our familys' eyes -- it's just when we're active, we don't care. We CAN'T care because the disease takes over and tells us lies -- it keeps telling us we need more and more and more.
It's not until we hit that WALL - or hit the bottom - that we finally see what we're doing to ourselves and everyone around us. Then reality sets in, and that can truly be a painful awakening -- but it's one that can save our lives!!
