They have expanded eligibility for medicaid.
They also provide tax credits [major ones] for insurance through the market place.
They also provide subsidies for those that qualify [which is very likely if you are in the space between medicaid and... whatever the hell else].
The subsidies often mean that you don't pay more than 10-20% of whatever is considered your monthly income [the definition can vary]. I've gone through the process at length with someone recently and was on the phone with someone for quite a while.
Actually what we ended up doing was applying once, getting a confirmation number and then CALLING and having them go through the online application with us on the phone.
TWICE.
It was kind of ridiculous.
No on really knows their head from their ***, and really my recommendation is to call your local
SHIP and ask them to please help guide you and refer you to some one who knows what the hell they are doing.
