Let's see, how to describe Kansas. Kansas is a land of contradictions. I usually describe it this way.

If you were to fall down on the sidewalk and you were in California, it would immediately be on the news with people screaming at the camera to help you and starting a fund raiser. If you fell in New York, people would stumble over you, give you a kick and be on their way because they have a long way to go and no time to get there. If you fell in Texas, they would help you, lift your wallet and claim to be your friend while stealing your credit cards. In Connecticut, they would help you up, give you a big hug and offer you something warm to drink.

But in Kansas, they would help you up, dust you off and without a word go on their way.

So we're oddly helpful and independent, but don't really make an issue of things ... but then there's the down side of that. We're so xenophobic that we've banned gay marriage, are the center of the abortion debate and demand that religion be taught as if it were science in schools.

So yeah, Kansas the land of "WTF!?"
