Here in New York the term ...dissociation.....is things like going numb due to a trigger, feeling spaced out due to a trigger, feeling disconnected to oneself due to a trigger....
examples
I got stressed out at work yesterday, because I was stressed I started feeling numb, spaced out (dissociated). to fix this I excused myself from what I was doing, went outside for a moment took a few deep breaths. that cleared my feeling numb and spaced out feeling so I could go back to work.
I was waiting in line at a movie theater. I happened to look at the person close to me. he reminded me of one of my abusers. I felt numb, spaced out, not quite connected to my body. my wife and I left the line, went to the car and there I was able to use my grounding and other tools that helped me to feel less numb, spaced out and back connected with my body.
you are in canada according to your profile location. sometimes canada has different terms/definitions then the USA therefore to find out what the term ...dissociation .....means where you are you will need to contact your treatment provider or a treatment provider in your location.
