I just watched a movie that I didn't remember seeing until the movie moved along. After about 20 minutes I realized I saw the movie but couldn't recall how the movie went. As each segment played out I could recall seeing it before but I couldn't recall how the movie would progress. This occurred throughout the entire movie. I originally saw this movie maybe two or three months ago. This has happened to me before. It's weird because once I realize I have seen it before I try to think ahead as to what is going to happen in the movie but it's like I never saw it before. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

what would it be for you i cant answer that, no one but you and your own treatment providers can say what this is with in you..... in general.... for some people its just how their brains normally work. some people have good short term and long term memory recall and others dont. some people have good/great short term memory recall and others may have bad short term but good/great long term I know someone who can tell you what happened in every single movie they saw but can not tell you what numbers you just told them. and vice versa I know people who can tell you in great detail what happened with in minutes ago but can not recall in excerpts from books, movies, tv shows.... the brain is an amazing thing and never works the same way for everyone as in how much and of what is stored and for how long. with in me I have this happen all the time where I can recall some things and not others and sometimes only recall something as Im doing it. my own treatment providers call this kind of memory problem in me a medication side effect. Im on some meds that affect my short term and long term memory process. I also have MS (multiple Sclerosis) which is a neurological / physical problem that affects many aspects of a person including memory gaps/memory recall problems. I also get this as part of my bipolar disorder. when im in mania phase my brain works so fast that it cant store everything in the correct order so sometimes I get delayed recall where it takes something like actually reading the book or watching a movie before that memory is jogged and active. again only you and your own treatment providers can say what the problem is with in you, which can be normal or any number of things. |

I have to watch a movie 10-12 times to see the whole movie.
![]() Usually what happens to me is I say to someone I know... This looks like a good movie; I want to see it. And the response ranges from we went to the theater to watch it or we saw this the other day, etc. Now I just say, cool, did I like it?? ![]() Hang in there. Our lives are interesting, if nothing else. ![]() ![]()

My H told me we wento see Monuments Men. I argued w/him & said I never saw it. He wouldn't lie. I guess I was bored in the movie & dissociated thru it.
I told him recently that I saw the third movie of The Hunger Games. He said it hasn't been put out yet. But in my mind I guess I got so locked into the book & characters that to me I've already seen it. Makes no sense to me! But either does my diagnosis ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Maybe it just wasn't that great a movie and you forgot most of it?

That's happened to me my entire life and it's mostly when I see the movies at the movie theater. I don't remember most of the movies I've seen at the theater. I'm not sure why. I didn't remember any of the Lord of the Rings movies, there were huge chunks missing that I found out about only when I saw them on DVD. Same with Harry Potter and lots of others. They were good movies so it couldn't have been that, I just blame it on bad memory and something that happens to me at the theater.

examples I got stressed out at work yesterday, because I was stressed I started feeling numb, spaced out (dissociated). to fix this I excused myself from what I was doing, went outside for a moment took a few deep breaths. that cleared my feeling numb and spaced out feeling so I could go back to work. I was waiting in line at a movie theater. I happened to look at the person close to me. he reminded me of one of my abusers. I felt numb, spaced out, not quite connected to my body. my wife and I left the line, went to the car and there I was able to use my grounding and other tools that helped me to feel less numb, spaced out and back connected with my body. you are in canada according to your profile location. sometimes canada has different terms/definitions then the USA therefore to find out what the term ...dissociation .....means where you are you will need to contact your treatment provider or a treatment provider in your location. |
