I think we've had this conversation before. About the function and opportunities around small talk or chat, a low-risk opportunity to show oneself and observe others. The chat is just a vehicle for unstated things. Doesn't matter that it's trivial and meaningless itself. It opens doors. Lets people know whether you are friendly and warm, etc, etc. It's the first stage upon which you can study the human species. And if you're going to have a partner in life, studying the human species to some degree is a good idea, if not essential.

But, you aren't going to do that, so shutting down chat fits with your plan or expectations for the future.
