We were allowed markers, crayons, and colored pencils without erasers. They kept them locked up when arts and craft time was over. I used to have to sneak out the colored pencils so I could do word searches. We had a gym at one of the hospitals but all we could do was walk around. There wasn't anything to really do. There was a cafeteria at the first hospital I went to but we were only allowed to go there once we met with the doctor so I was stuck on the floor for 3 of the 6 days I was there. We weren't even allowed to shower and shave alone.
The 2nd hospital was just a locked unit. No gym, no cafeteria, no access to the outdoors...nothing. They even locked up the fridge when it wasn't meal time. Strangely enough I preferred this hospital because the workers were nicer.
