Yeah I've read as much myself. The one hope is what is known as brain plasticity, basically that the brain can adapt to changes over time.

I've heard that too, according to a friend they saw him after a show, drunk & smoking a cigarette, went up to him but he pretty much just grunted & walked off in true Bernard Black style.
I'm not sure if it's an entirely accurate story but perhaps it is!
